Student Council

To the School Community,

The Student Council is formed by elected representatives from Year 4 to Year 6. Our goal is to improve the schools learning environment and coordinate activities for our school mates.

Our major roles and responsibilities are:

• to share students' ideas, interests and concerns with the school management.
• to give input about school policies
• to plan special events or projects
• to fund raise for student activities and programmes
• to give the student body a voice

As the chairman of the Student Council, my role is to ensure the council works effectively and efficiently.

The Student Council meets regularly every Tuesday to evaluate work done and to discuss student opinions and action to be taken.

The Student Council is a council for the students, of the students and by the students. The Council members will continue to pay the greatest effort to serve the school and our school mates.

We value children's contributions to our daily school life and listen to the views and ideas that are generated by the students. Our Student Council has been established to enable the children to have an active role in developments across our two campuses.

This year a 'new and improved' Student Council has been formed from students in Years 4,5 and 6 to provide children with a more effective voice; giving the children greater influence and ownership of a wider variety of initiatives within the School. The Council is made up of 30 children - 2 elected representatives from each class (1 boy and 1 girl) from Year 4 to Year 6. It is responsible for a variety of areas such as Playground, Environment and Charities & Fund Raising.

As well as working with ongoing issues around the school, we will be developing the work of the Student Council to include more involvement in major projects during the coming year. For example, helping with PTA events such as the annual School Fair and Christmas Disco. We would also like to see Student Council members making presentations to the School Council from time-to-time on issues affecting students at KJS.
