DATES FOR YOUR DAIRY

Dear All,

Since our last newsletter we have enjoyed a dance festival,  Battle of the Books and Tournaments of the Minds here at KJS:

Just before the long weekend the first ESF Celebration of Dance was held here at KJS. Organized by Katie Tucker and Jane Parker, the evening featured dancers from fifteen ESF schools.  It was an extremely successful and moving evening.

Last week our team participated in the Battle of the Books semi finals. We were very proud of them all for coming third in the competition – just pipped to the post by Clearwater Bay and Kingston International.

This Saturday we entered two teams in the Mathematical Engineering category of Tournaments of the Minds. Both teams performed well with Team 2 picking up the trophy at the end.

These events do not happen without the support and inspiration of the teachers who work with the students. May I pass on my heartfelt thanks to Mrs Tucker, Mrs Parker, Mrs Rigby, Mr Davenport, Mrs Stewart, Miss Leedale, Mrs Raymond, Mrs May , Mrs Davison, Ms Sheppard, Ms Brinkworth, Ms Robin, the KJS Tech Team and everyone else who contributed behind the scenes.

Warmest regards.

Karen Thomas

Head of School

Sun Hat

Now that the warmer weather is upon us I must remind you that in order to protect children from harmful rays we operate a strict ‘No Hat – No Play’ policy in school.  All children should have their own clearly named hat which should be brought to school every day.  I note that there are a significant number of children without hats at the moment. Parents are asked to purchase hats from the PTA Office as soon as possible.

STUDENT ACTION

Fill a Pencil Case Campaign

Hi! We are five students from Kowloon Junior School and we are taking action by trying to fill as many pencil cases as we can to help support refugees in Hong Kong who are going back to school. donating to Christian Action.  We would request parents to buy some stationery to put it in a pencil case for donation because we really want to help refugees with their learning.

You just have to put some new stationery in a pencil case and that’s it! It will make so many refugees happy.  We will start collecting now and finish on 19th May.

We are trying our best to donate as much as we can but we would love help from you! Filled pencil cases can be put in the boxes outside the School Office.

Sincerely,

Dakshita, Malvi,Hannah, Trishna and Ruqaya (5M)

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

On 1st May Aarav represented his club ‘Sky Warrior’ in the Dayal Badminton Championship and won the Under 11 doubles category! Well done Aarav!

On May 1st Nathan participated in an open Taekwondo competition for primary school students held by International Taekwondo Association of Hong Kong.  Nathan was placed first in his weight class of 23-25kg and won all his matches that day. His most memorable match came in the semifinals when Nathan fell behind 3-8 after first half. His coach Ms. Cheng, told Nathan to simply not look at the score board for the rest of the match and just keep on fighting hard till the final buzzer. Nathan eventually tied the match (without knowing) and beat his opponent in overtime.  Excellent perseverance Nathan!

On April 30th Sian joined the Sportscene Gymnastics Invitational Competition 2017, securing one trophy and 3 medals, winning merits for Trampoline, Floor, Box and All Round. Sian demonstrates her passion for gymnastics by practising everyday. We are very proud of you Sian!

Belle was the first runner up for the Level 3 floor event and was the overall team champion at the same competition. She worked very hard and we are delighted with her success.

…. and Mythili was placed 5th overall! Well done to Mythili and all the KJS gymnasts. Great work!

Well done to Hayley and Maahi for their entries to the PYPX Logo competition – we will be using a combination of both the winning designs for the Exhibition!

Simona performed in Youth Square, Chai Wan,  dancing with her team.  This is a great picture – thank you for sharing it Simona.
