ACTION EDITION!

This Thursday I hope we will all enjoy the Action Day initiated by our Y6 students as part of their Exhibition. Students are asked to being $20 should they wish to ‘dress down’ for the day – the money collected will be shared between the NGOs who the children are working with.  In addition there is an opportunity for families to make donations or for children to bring extra money to swap books, purchase items or play games.

We are group 36, 44 and 46 and we would like to start a KJS EARTH HOUR.

On Thursday 25th May 2017, we are asking everyone at K.J.S to participate in an EARTH HOUR event. We are encouraging the community to save energy by turning off all or most of the lights, fans and ACs for an hour from 12:00 – 13:00. We have seen lots of classes which have their curtains closed and their lights turned on in the day time! We have measured the amount of electricity the school uses at this time on a Thursday and found out that 250 kgs of CO₂ is released in the air! This is a lot in only one hour. Not only that but we spend around $HK560 in only one hour! Please consider this as we waste a lot of money on lights and ACs. Please remind your children about the KJS Earth Hour this Thursday.

Thank you for your support in reducing CO₂!
Sincerely, Group 36, 44, 46

We are group 21 , our names are Clarence and Shashvat. Our Global goal is Clean Water and Sanitation. We are planning on holding a bake sale to raise money, which will be donated to WaterAid. WaterAid is a great foundation which goes to affected countries like Laos, Bangladesh and India to build toilets and hand pumps near villages in need. This can help save countless lives. What we are going to make for our bake sale is mug cakes and lemonade which will be $10 and $5 respectively. We hope you can help us make a difference and help us alleviate the problem. Please take action, be inspired and please help the world around us and the people around us. Thank You.

Hello, we are Group 13 (Brian, Alex and Sallie) Group 14 (Rithy, Allen and Joshua) Group 16 (Hayley and Diya) and we would like to help refugees in Hong -Kong as a part of our Y6 Exhibition. In Hong Kong, there are more than 9900 refugees (2016) living in poor conditions. How can we help them?

Well, you can turn a refugee’s life around by donating items like:

  • Clothing: Children’s (particularly lightweight summer clothing) & men’s clothing
  • Cutlery
  • Pots and pans
  • Cooking utensils
  • Soccer/Basket balls
  • Frisbee and skipping ropes
  • Children’s toys

There will be a cardboard box downstairs by the school office to collect these items from 23/5 to 26/5 and all of your donations will be sent to an organisation called Crossroads Foundation which specializes in improving refugee’s lives.

Thank you for your consideration

I am part of Group 29 and I am taking action by helping the KJS Sky Garden grow! Please donate the following items:

  • Soil
  • Pots
  • Seeds
  • Trays
  • Plants
  • Planting baskets

There will be a drop box outside the ground floor office from Tuesday 23rd-Wednesday 31st May for your donations. Cash donations will be collected by me on Thursday 25th May during Action Day.

Thank you for your help!

Charter for the Fair Treatment of Domestic Helpers

We are Group 1 of the Year 6 PYP Exhibition and we are the Rights’ Fighters. Our names are: Ariana Ziya, Khushi and Ellie. The Global Goal we are focusing on is Reduced Inequalities, and our main focus is the unfair treatment of Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong.

For our action, we have written a charter for families to follow to ensure that their helpers are treated well, fairly and according to Hong Kong law.  We are appealing to  members of the KJS community to work with us by printing and signing this charter, and making the pledge to follow these agreements:

Students/Children:

  1. Speak in a warm and nice tone when you are talking to your Auntie (Domestic Helper).
  2. Be thankful and appreciative for what your Auntie (Domestic Helper) does for you.
  3. Listen and respect your Auntie (Domestic Helper) like you would to any other adult.

Employer:

  1. Allow your Domestic Helper to have some free time.
  2. Provide money to your Domestic Helper for sickness and food bills.
  3. Speak in a warm and nice tone with your Domestic Helper.

Family

  1. Speak in a warm and nice tone with your Domestic Helper.
  2. Be thankful and appreciative for what your Domestic Helper does for you.
