Dear Parents

This year we have a number of staff who will be leaving us for a range of destinations, jobs and career choices. Some have been with KJS for many years and others just a few. Regardless we will miss their professionalism, hard work and dedication, humour and the skills they have brought to KJS. Over the last 4 months we have been seeking the best teachers and support staff from Hong Kong around the globe to replace these wonderful individuals and we have been very successful in securing exceptional teachers and support staff for KJS.

Those leaving us are:

Teachers

  • Leonie Raymond and Nina Soulsby both returning to the UK
  • John McArthur and Matt Caplin are both moving to Chinese International School
  • Bob Chahal and Jane Howells are both taking a years sabbatical leave
  • Heather Darling is leaving to spend more time with her young family
  • Rob Taylor is moving to the US to work with his partner
  • Jacqui Stewart is exploring opportunities for study and continued special needs leadership

Support Staff

  • Robin Shilling recently left us to pursue a career in early childhood teaching
  • Karen Wen is moving to Shanghai with her family
  • Wai Ying Yeung, Viola Mak, Chiu Wah ip, Gigi Hung retiring

and we are pleased to advise the teaching team who will be joining us are:

  • Kate Blackshaw – existing KJS temporary teacher
  • Megan Ainsworth – from Peak School
  • Scott Panico – from Renaissance College
  • Joseph Fahy – from Renaissance College
  • Dana MacLennan – from New Zealand
  • Carolyn Aukafolau – from New Zealand
  • Sarah Simpson – from Australia
  • Francesca Knapman – from UK
  • Elizabeth Montoya – from USA (currently in Mexico)

We are still in the process of making support staff appointments.

It is an exciting week for us this week with the PYPX on Thursday night showcasing all the skills, attributes and knowledge our Year Six students have gained at their time at KJS. We are looking forward to a great night!

Kind Regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Calling All Students in Year 3, 4, and 5

We are very excited to announce that our musical production this year will be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Performances will take place on 15 and 16 November with rehearsals every Wednesday from 3-5 pm.  There will also be one Saturday rehearsal (date TBC) in November leading up to the performances.

A Google Form sign up sheet, for actors, singers and dancers, will be emailed to parents of children in Y3, 4, and 5 on Monday 11 June. Please ensure before you sign your child up that they are available for all rehearsals.

Auditions will take place before the end of the school year with parts allocated accordingly. Every child who auditions can take part but please help us to manage your child’s expectations around the part they will play in the production.  We view every part no matter how big or small as essential to the production being successful.

Tech and backstage crew will have an opportunity to sign up in the new academic year.

Message from 5D

Hello everybody! We are from 5D. For our market day we are looking for donations of crayons, your donation would help us a lot. Any chipped or tiny pieces of crayons will be good enough. Being environmentally friendly is very important to us, but we need your help to be able to do this and not produce new waste. If you have donations please leave them in the donation box outside 5D. Please bring your crayons to the 5D classroom.Thank you very much for your time!

PTA Update

PTA Committee 2018-19

We are currently looking for parents to join our PTA committee for the new academic year.  If you are interested in joining us, please email the PTA office at pta@kjs.edu.hk with your details.  Alternatively you can also approach the PTA administrators in person.

Helper Appreciation Afternoon

It seems there was a confusion with this event which was held last Thursday.  In order to facilitate the inflow of people coming into school during school hours, parents were required to sign their helpers up on a form that had been provided in the newsletter of 23 May 2018.  Signing up also helps us when it comes to catering for and managing an event. Unfortunately, there were a lot of walk-ins and some could not be accommodated for security reasons.

We always appreciate your feedback. Please do email us if you have any concerns, questions or suggestions. Thank you.
