DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Dear All,

Last week we all thoroughly enjoyed the Y6 PYP Exhibition Showcase. This annual event gives the Y6 students the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and dispositions they have developed over the course of their years working within the Primary Years Programme. Through the central idea “Expressing values and passions can move people to take action” the students found creative ways to communicate their findings following their inquiry into one aspect of the UN Global Goals. It was a wonderful evening and I felt extremely proud of the students’ achievements. My thanks go to all the teachers and parents who supported the children throughout the process.

Y6 have only four weeks left of their primary education. In recognition of this important event we have decided to hold our first Y6 Leavers’ Celebration on June 28th:

Information regarding registration and payment will be emailed to all Y6 parents today. Please note that as this event is heavily subsidised by the PTA, only parents who have paid their PTA subscription will be able to purchase tickets. I should take this opportunity to also thank the PTA for purchasing all the Y6 PYPX T-shirts for the children again this year.

I will send one last note out to parents who have forgotten to pay this week.

We are looking for some disposable plastic water /drink bottles that the decorating team could use for this event – any size will do.  Please make sure they are empty and clean. A collection box will be set outside the school office from Monday onwards; sending them in at your earliest convenience would be much appreciated.

Warmest regards.

Karen Thomas

Head of School

Book Week

We are all really excited about Book Week this week – today we have lots of special guest readers and tomorrow the author Matt Cooper is coming to see us. On Wednesday there will be a book sale and people reading stories in different languages. Thursday arks the final day of the Book Sale and on Friday it is Dress Up Day!  Children are asked to come dressed as their favourite book character – this is always a highlight of our year and I can’t wait to see how creative you have all been!

Internet safety/ Responsible use

Over the last few weeks we have had some disappointing incidents arising from irresponsible online practices. As we investigate what has been happening we have taken the precaution of suspending all Y6 google accounts. We are currently working with KJS and KGV staff to ensure that our students have a keen understanding of key digital citizen skills throughout all year groups.

  • Internet Safety
  • Relationships and communication
  • Information Literacy
  • Creative credit and copyright

I will contact Y6 parents pending the results of our investigations and urge all parents to be aware of your child’s online activities and to ensure that you have conversations about timing, privacy and ethical use of technology.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

We have recently been informed of four confirmed cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in school. We are working closely with the Department of Health, but ask that you are extra vigilant at monitoring your children for signs and symptoms of the infection. These include a fever, a rash or spots on the hands or feet, mouth ulcers, sore throat, loss of appetite and general malaise. If your child develops any of these symptoms please keep them at home and seek further medical advice from a doctor. Children should not be returning to school until they are 48 hours fever free, without the need for medication and once any spots or blisters have completely dried up.

Hayley participated in the Changsha Gymnastics International Invitation Tournament – Enlighten Cup 2017 in Changsha China last weekend together with other ESF gymnastic students. She competed against other strong gymnasts from Changsha Hunan. Although this was Hayley’s first gymnastic competition, she won a gold medal for the vault, 3rd runner-up for both floor and beam at the Hawk level Group 2! She enjoyed every moment of the competition and is looking forward to the Annual ESF Gymnastic Tournament to be held at South Island School in two weeks time.

Lachie and Aishaan were two of the KJS students who took part in the Faust Festival on Sunday at Youth Square. Lachie was in Bugsy Malone and Aishaan was in The Clockwork Prince of Oz – great performances by both boys!
