Newsletter- 01/09/17

Kowloon Junior School’s latest newsletter is available to read now.

Dear Parents,

It has been wonderful to see so many of you at school over the past week and to gain a sense of the passion and pride you have in the school and the keen interest you have in your children’s education. Many thanks to the 200 of you who completed the online survey about ‘Success For Every Child’ and ‘Communication’.

From the survey there is a considerable amount of data and information we need to unpack, however in regard to overall communication 68% of respondents rated KJS communication ‘valuable and providing useful information’, 26% were neutral (I must remember not to use a 1-5 scale in future, ‘3’ does not tell us much!) and only 4% do not find the communication ‘valuable or providing the needed information’. All other forms of communication (School weekly newsletter, year level newsletter, curriculum statement) were rated in a similar way with the exception of Facebook, which appears to be of less value to families (only 40% positively rated this).

Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the themes coming from the written feedback regarding what ‘Success For Every Child’ means to families, and things we do well and could do better. We will be having the same conversation with staff and children as we work together to make KJS the best it can be.

I do thank those who completed the survey for taking the time to respond, for the positive feedback and the solution focused approach. When home and school work together, we can achieve great things for our children and indeed we can achieve, ‘Success For Every Child’.

For those of you who like to consider the best examples around the world, at the moment Hong Kong and Singapore rate very highly on international comparisons. However two nations who stand out are Finland and South Korea (click here), and they both achieve their results in very different ways. Good food for thought as we work together to make KJS the best possible learning environment for our children.
