Dear Parents,

Welcome to 2018!

I trust you had a lovely time with your family and friends over the break. I do hope you managed to have some time where you were totally present with your children. I was encouraged by the number of parents who wrote or spoke to me saying they were going to make a concerted effort to ‘be present' with their children and loved ones over the break and not have a phone or electronic device disrupting real time. As we get into 2018 I do encourage you to:

  • Limit the your child's screen time

  • Limit your own screen time (especially phones) so that you can be present with your child

  • Set aside uninterrupted 1:1 time with your children

  • Read with your child and model reading, children who read well are more successful in life

As we get into 2018 let's remind ourselves about what Success at KJS means. In 2017 we agreed the five key characteristics of Success at KJS are A.A.R.O.W or the “AAROW of Success”:

Achievement: Ensuring each child is making positive progress and succeeding

Agency: Children taking progressively more responsibility and control of their learning

(more self regulating)and knowing what they are learning, how they will learn, how they will be successful and their next steps.

Respect: Having respect for self, others and the environment

Opportunity: Having opportunities to learn in different ways with different people, at

different times and places. Opportunity for creative, critical and collaborative thinking and learning and opportunity to learn in a joyful learning environment

Wellbeing: For our children to have a positive sense of wellbeing and have the skills,

strategies and understanding to cope with the complex challenges in life with resilience and a growth mindset

If we want our children to achieve with the AAROW of success it will be through a partnership with you at home. Please feel free to talk about these characteristics with your children. Perhaps focus on one at a time over dinner time or at other times when you have 1:1 time with your child. Talk with them about how you use the AAROW in your own life and ask them about how they are using the characteristics to achieve success at KJS.

Together we can ensure Success for every child at KJS!

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill

Principal
