Kowloon Junior School (KJS) is one of the primary schools under the English Schools Foundation (ESF), the largest provider of English-medium international education in Hong Kong, and is a very large, well-established five form entry school catering for 900 students from Year 1 to Year 6.  It is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and is an IB World School. Teaching and learning at KJS is rich in inquiry and underpinned by a rigorous approach to pedagogy and practice.

Our school accommodates up to 30 classes, 5 classes at each year level and the maximum class size is 30 pupils. To assist each child to develop to their full potential in all areas, a balanced programme of academic, social, physical and cultural activities is offered at KJS.

All of the classrooms have interactive whiteboards, full wireless connectivity, and access to a bank of laptop computers and mobile devices.

The current staff are outstanding educators. Whilst they originally hail from UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or American, many have been in Hong Kong for many years.

Hong Kong culture values education and at KJS, parents are very supportive. The students are wonderful and the staff are amazing. It is a wonderful place to teach.

Librarian

An exciting opportunity has arisen at KJS for an enthusiastic and experienced Librarian to join us from February 2018.

Apart from being an experienced librarian with a recognised library qualification, you will also be someone who has a love of books and be sufficiently well read to be able to recommend appropriate reading materials to both students and adults. You will feel confident and comfortable working with groups of children & adults across the primary phase, be a good communicator and be passionate about learning.

In additional to the main accountabilities as stated in our generic job description (click here for a copy), job duties of the successful candidate will include but not be limited to the items below:

  • Author visits
  • Ordering of appropriate resources
  • Book events e.g. book week
  • Attending ESF library meetings

KJS is seeking to appoint enthusiastic, experienced and exemplar PYP Co-ordinator to join our professional team starting from August 2018.

As part of our Senior Leadership Team, our PYP Co-ordinator’s main role is to develop the shared pedagogical leadership within the school and wider school community in the effective implementation and ongoing development of the IBO PYP programme within the school.

You will be an enthusiastic, talented and experienced PYP Co-ordinator with the required knowledge, skills and understanding to work closely with an experienced team of educators, dedicated to catering for the needs of all children in their care. In addition to being an exemplar practitioner, you will also know how to work effectively as part of a team, be extremely well organised; and possess excellent spoken and written English skills. Your warm personality coupled with strong interpersonal skills will enable you to communicate effectively with all members of the school community.

Lead Learner – Class Based – 2 years renewable contract

A Lead Learner’s main role is to model, encourage and advocate quality learning and teaching to ensure the best possible outcomes for the students. The Lead Learner is a middle leadership post attracting an additional teaching and learning responsibility (TLR) allowance.

Lead Learners at KJS are an integral part of the school’s leadership team. You will work closely with senior leaders to set strategic direction and help us realise our vision of “Success for Every Child”. In addition to your own class teaching obligations, you will also have responsibility for leading pedagogy across the school.

Educational Assistant – Classroom

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Kowloon Junior School (KJS) for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to join our team in mid/late April 2016.

This position is a full time role, working directly with children in the classroom, under the teachers’ supervision. Preparation of materials is also an aspect of the position, as is the supervision of children at break times, if appropriate.

Whilst previous experience of working in a primary school would be an advantage, our main goal at KJS is to employ staff who are confident and comfortable working with groups of children across the primary phase, and be passionate about learning. You will have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude with lots of energy and enthusiasm. You will have excellent organisational skills and relish working as part of a team. Your excellent spoken and written English skills, coupled with your warm personality and strong interpersonal skills, will enable you to communicate effectively with all members of the school community.
