Yr1 Curriculum Update – 22/09/17

Working together to achieve success for every child

Greetings! – It’s our 3rd edition!

Each week we will write a newsletter keeping you up-to-date and informed about your child’s learning. This will provide you with a good understanding of happenings in Year 1 and how you can support these learning experiences.

Transdisciplinary Learning – It’s all connected!

This week, the students have continued to inquire into the central idea the central idea, ‘Members of a successful community have roles and responsibilities’. Year 1 Exploration Time has provided the students with a variety of learning opportunities to inquire into and reflect on the different types of communities they are part of, identifying what makes these communities successful. Collaborative play-based activities have supported the development of students social and organisational skills and enabled them to make connections to other aspects of learning.

Counting Activities: These fun play-based math games help the students to count items in sequence up to 20 and beyond.

With language, for example, digital literacy (e.g. IPADs, laptops & interactive whiteboards) has supported the development of students’ phonological awareness and reading skills through rhyme and song. Meanwhile in Maths, students learning has continued to focus on estimating numbers of objects up to 10 and counting items in sequences past 20.

Would you like to help in Year 1?

Next week, each Year 1 Class will send home a parent volunteer letter for individuals who would like to visit the school and support the students learning from October 2017. More details to follow soon!

Kindest regards, The Year 1 Team
