Yr1 Weekly Update – 01/13/17

Imagination can be shared through storytelling

This week, every class has experienced innovating a different familiar story. The children were able to think of and create a different character, setting, problem and solution to the story. The children have recorded their ideas through writing and drawings and are beginning to mind-map ideas about how their new story could be told in different ways in preparation for our Year 1 Showcase.

In Literacy, we have experienced storytelling in different ways. We have inquired into story maps and explored story structure focusing on the beginning, middle and end of stories and what each part needs to include.  Can you name the five features that make up every story?

In Maths, we have inquired into Odd and Even numbers.  We have explored this using a variety of practical equipment such as Numicon and have shared quantities into two equal groups to help us find out whether a number is odd or even.
