People Explore to Understand the World

Our week has been filled with patterns! Our exploration of pattern as a concept has led us to investigate pattern in language, our environment and in maths as a focus.

In literacy we have been finding patterns in sounds and writing, what is the pattern in these words; ‘call’, ‘ball’, ‘stall’? Our shared reading of pattern books has led us to writing our own pattern sentences and innovating them with our own ideas. The pattern books we have been reading have also helped us answer questions by finding the information in the text.

We have been enthusiastic explorers of KJS! We went on a pattern hunt armed with iPads and lots of curiosity. We found patterns in drains, colours and on the ground. Using ‘Brainpop’ we further explored pattern and learnt how the seasons are also a pattern and revolve in a cycle. Can you name the four seasons? Which season are we in now?

As a unit focus we have begun and will continue to explore questions and statements. As questioning is a very important part of our inquiry into exploration we think it is very important that we can sort them out! Which here is a question and which is a statement? ‘The apple is red.’ ‘What colour is the apple?’

Finally, we would like to wish all the Year 1 children who took part in our Diwali assembly a big WELL DONE! Thank you to, to the parents who supported our celebrations. From the Year 1 team – HAPPY DIWALI!!
