Yr2 Weekly Update – 01/06/17

Happy new year to all our families! It has been lovely to see all the boys and girls in Year 2 back at school this week sharing their exciting holiday stories. Everybody is refreshed and ready to start the new term!

It has been an exciting week as the students have begun taking action to redesign our shared area into a “Health and Well-being zone. We now have lots of different areas which support the children’s social, physical and emotional well-being. All classes are enjoying the challenging activities they can do to help keep themselves healthy. Year 2 children have also been learning about the meaning of “commitment” and have been trying hard to achieve the goals they have set themselves to keep healthy.  Please ask your child what their goal is!

Literacy

In literacy this week the students have really enjoyed listening to different types of music to see what kind of feelings and emotions we connect the music too. Each class has created a vocabulary bank of language  connected to emotions and the students have enjoyed trying to sketch and act out these emotions to one another. We have also been reflecting on personal times when we have felt these emotions and what caused them. In writing we have been busy recounting our Christmas holidays, zooming into one main idea to write about in more detail. The students have also been trying hard to fulfil their targets in writing to help improve it.

Maths

In Maths we have been looking for patterns of numbers in a One Hundreds chart. Some classes have also been conducting an inquiry into the amount of sugar that is in different types of drinks. We were all most surprised by the results as we discovered many of them contain lots of spoonfuls of sugar!
