Yr2 Weekly Update – 01/20/17

The choices we make affect our well-being

Our field trip to Lai Chi Kok Park has made this a very exciting week for Year 2! The students loved our visit to the park and really enjoyed exploring the different well-being zones. We visited the Chinese Garden and watched the fish swimming in the pond, enjoyed getting a foot massage from the stones and relaxed beside the water fountains. We also went to the large playground to play on the swings, slides, climbing frames and rock walls. It was wonderful fun but so tiring! After that each class went for a “walk about” to see what other fitness activities they could find in the park. We ended up climbing hills, watching basketball, looking at the beautiful flowers and trying out the fitness equipment in the park. By the time we returned to school the children were exhausted but really happy!

If you have time at the weekend or in the holiday we would highly recommend visiting with your family, it’s a fantastic outdoor space!

Literacy

In literacy this week we have continued to write recounts about times when we have felt certain emotions and reflected on the triggers which have caused them. We have also been thinking about how the actions we take can affect those around us and have practiced writing sentences which include so and because to explain this.

Maths

In Maths we have been testing out our problem solving skills this week. The children have been learning to solve additive problems using a hundreds chart to help them and have been working collaboratively to share their solutions.

Here is one of the challenging problems, can you think of all the answers?

Thanks

Thank you to all the Mummies and Daddies who offered to help out this week on our trip, we greatly appreciate your support and hope you had a great time!
