Yr2 Weekly Update – 03/31/17

Sharing the Planet

Plants Sustain Life on Earth and Play a Role in Our Lives

Sports Day

The children had a fantastic time and showed great skill, commitment and determination when completing all of the activities.  Many thanks to all of the parents that attended Sports Day, it was another exciting event for the KJS community.

Inquiry

We have started our ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit and the children have been tuning in to some of the areas that we will explore over the next few weeks. Our trip to Lions Park on the 29th March 2017 gave the children a chance to observe and experience a number of plants, fruit and vegetables growing in their natural environment.

The children have been discussing and recording what they saw, what they think and what they wonder to form the questions that will underpin the beginning stages of our inquiry.

Literacy

We have been using our research skills to find information in books, online and through films and videos.  The children were able to use their observation skills during their trip on Wednesday and had a lot of fun exploring and finding things out.  Back at school we organised our ideas into words and pictures to communicate our understandings.

Maths

The children have continued to explore fractions, finding fractions of numbers by sharing them equally.
