Welcome!

Following the feedback we have received via the online survey to parents and the discussions we have had as a staff we will be providing the ‘Curriculum Update’ fortnightly on a Friday for 2017/18. This ensures we can share meaningful reflections with parents regarding the learning that has occurred over the last fortnight, signal upcoming events and activities and provide support for home school links.

 

Transdisciplinary Learning – It’s all connected!

In the first unit of the year the students are inquiring into the central idea,

‘People design and develop systems to meet needs.’

The students have had opportunities to look into systems by inquiring into what defines a system and how a system can function. This has led to some very exciting classroom and school explorations that helped the students to be thinkers by identifying, recording and analyzing systems around them.

 

Identifying systems around us:

The library system, the art room system

 

 

 

 

Finding out how things function:

The shop system, the number system and exploring objects that connect together to create a system

 

 

 

 

How you can help at home

 

*Identify systems you see everyday. Discuss why you or your child may think this is a system.

* Collect tickets, maps or brochures to look at how systems work.

 

 

 

 

 

 

*Take photographs of what systems your child can identify out of school and bring them into school to share!
*Travel on a tram, train or bus system around Hong Kong and talk about how the system works!

Here are some quick key messages and dates to note down:

Please look out for the Loose Parts brochure being sent out to all Y2 parents this week. We are revamping our Y2 Shared Area so we can continue to create learning experiences that are fun, exciting and challenging for our creative learners and would be grateful for any loose parts you can donate!

– 2nd to 6th October: School closed: Half term holiday
