Yr2 Weekly Update – 12/09/16

It has been another very busy week in Year 2. We have been exploring the first line of our new inquiry into Who We Are. Through playful learning the students have been finding out how to keep themselves healthy and the reasons why it is important. We have looked closely into how food, exercise, sleep and personal hygiene are all important to our health. The boys and girls now have lots of questions they seek to find the answers too!  The children have also begun redesigning our shared area to promote their well-being. They have come up with many super ideas to encourage one another to feel happy and healthy. These include opening a Health Clinic, a Café, a chill out lounge, a fitness centre and a balance zone.

Literacy

In literacy this week some classes have been exploring our new phonics pattern ( I as in tie, flight, sky and lie) and have been investigating the words which follow this rule. We have also been practicing the reading skill of visualizing an image in our heads and identifying good describing words authors use to help us do this. We discovered the famous children’s author Roald Dahl uses fantastic word choice to help us paint a picture in our heads as we read and listen to his stories!

Maths

In Maths we have started learning how to use a computer coding app called Scratch Junior. It is a program that allows children to create their own interactive stories and games using a set of instructions that they must teach the computer to follow. In the process, the children learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer.

  • School finishes for the Christmas holidays on Tuesday 13th December at 12pm.

Congratulations!

Well done to Gustav in 2M who took part in the Hong Kong Medical Association Sport Day on 27th November. He came third in his age group for the 60m run. Wow what fantastic work!

We also want to say a huge well done to Jaden from 2M who won the runner-up prize in the Junior Primary Group category of a graphic design competition. Attached is his drawing from the competition and it will be made into a real T-shirt for him to wear soon. Well done Jaden!

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a fantastic holiday with family and friends!
