Yr2 Weekly Update – 30/9/16

We had a fantastic week last week in Y2 completing our unit about How We Organise Ourselves.  Students created their own systems and explained how they worked.  Children reflected on how well they co-operated on how they completed their tasks and discussed ways in which they could improve their systems. We also began checking students’ knowledge about celebrations in preparation for our Unit about How We Express Ourselves.  Students were asked to fill a secret bag with items relevant to a personal celebration.  This is causing great excitement for the new learning.

We continued to challenge ourselves in Maths by using our place value knowledge to solve more difficult problems.  We used our Maths vocabulary in order to explain our thinking. In data management some children collected information using surveys or class votes.  This might have been linked to learning zones or systems.

In Literacy students continued to work on their personal writing targets by writing about systems that they might have developed.  They investigated different text types including ID cards, instructions and re-counts.  They were encouraged to think about the audience and purpose of each text type. In reading children made connections between their background knowledge and the text types that they read.

Our next unit is one in which family connections can really be investigated. If you are interested in sharing any of your family celebrations with the class, please contact your child’s class teacher.

School ends at 2.45 p.m on Friday 7th October and returns Tuesday 18th October.
