Yr3 Curriculum Update – 09/02/18

Working together to achieve success for every child

Dear parents,

What an unusual situation we find ourselves in!

Below you will find learning options for your child for the next week. We are aware that there will be a wide rage of home situations for our students, some will have access to technology, play equipment, the kitchen and adult help and others will not have this access or support. We are also aware some families have taken advantage of the closure to extend their Chinese New Year holiday. Considering these variables we have created a range of learning experiences your child can choose from which provide opportunity for reading, writing, maths hands on challenges, continuation of units of inquiry together with physical activity. Please support your child to take up the challenges and continue with their learning during this closure.

Please also reassure your child we will be continuing with book week activities (28 Feb and 1 March) and our Chinese New Year celebrations (2 March). As previously advise you can contact myself or your child’s teacher by email if you have specific questions.

We do hope you and your children stay well and that you can make the most of this break from formal schooling.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Exploration and discovery lead to change

This week we began our

‘ WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME’ unit of inquiry. Many children may come home and ask you and their grandparents to describe what it was like when you were young. This is a great way to help your child understand what it was like for you at school, your hobbies, the transport that you used and the way that your lives have changed, or not.

Thank you to all the year 3 parent volunteers who supported the trips to the museums. We hope you found the trip as enjoyable as we did. We always welcome any feedback for future trips.

Maths

We have started looking at time and the children have made watches and discussed the key vocabulary associated with time. It would be great if you could also support the learning by occasionally asking the kids to tell the time at home. We will be using analogue and digital times. If children have watches at home, it would be a good idea for them to wear them occasionally.  This is a great way for them to practice telling the time and becoming more organised with their time management skills.

English

This week we were fortunate enough to have the author STUART REID visit our school. The children found him very entertaining .

We have been reading many different biographies; especially of famous explorers and people who have influenced change throughout the world. We have used the notes we have made to write our own biographies and look at the differences between biographies and autobiographies.

Should you have any queries please, do contact us via our school emails.

Home Learning

Don’t forget the questions we sent home last week about what things were like when you were a Y3 pupil, and the link to the special CNY home learning is here.
