Unit of Inquiry

This week we have started our new Unit – Population changes have an effect on people and the environment.   We would like the children to ask  relatives about their memories of either Hong Kong or the country where they grew up.  The children should inquire into how the place has changed and perhaps whether the changes are good or bad and what prompted the change.

Teachers are beginning to introduce the Central Idea, the Approaches to Learning and the dispositions (attitudes and attributes) needed for this Unit.

Maths

Different classes are finishing different areas of maths learning this week including capacity and addition and subtraction strategies.  Some classes have started to introduce fractions to the children and this will be our focus after the CNY break.

Literacy

Teachers began by sharing the story Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge with the children and discussing what memories are.   Classes have completed various writing activities around the theme of memories.

Some classes have completed an explanation of the water cycle as a writing task. Teachers have also been working with children on their individual targets for reading and writing.
