Yr3 Curriculum Update – 08/09/17

Working together to achieve success for every child

Following the feedback received via the online survey to parents, and the discussions we have had as a staff, we will be providing the ‘Curriculum Update’ fortnightly on a Friday for 2017/18. This ensures we can share meaningful reflections with parents regarding the learning that has occurred over the last fortnight, signal upcoming events and activities and provide support for home school links.

This week’s learning

This week we have been looking into the nature of relationships.  We have been recording which relationships we are part of, wondering how you can decide if a relationship is successful or not, and beginning to look in detail at just what role and responsibility we have within relationships.

Some of our relationship learning has been based around narratives.  Reading a story about other people’s relationships, especially one which goes wrong, is a great way to start noticing the different things which make strong bond.  OF course this means we have been looking at narrative writing to, trying to expand our understanding of the parts of a story; to learn what the job of each element is,

We have been doing some important work on our place value understanding, making sure that we know that changing the placing of any digit also changes the magnitude (the value) of that digit.

Want to have some fun at home?

Playing dice games are a great way to practice place value.  Just grab some dice and draw a row of four boxes for each player, then take a dice and roll.  Whatever the value the first player must decide where in their row to place that digit.  Once placed, it can’t be moved.  The second player then does the same and the players continue until they have both filled all four of their boxes.  The largest value is the winner!

Picture of the week!

Riley finds her feet while trying to find a good-book-fit.  3D found out that  not every shoe fits and neither does every book.  Most importantly they learned that there is only one person who can really know if the book matches your brain, and that’s you!

Now, for some reason I have an urge to read Cinderella …

Only you know if the shoes fit just right … It’s the same with books!
