Yr4 Curriculum Update – 15/06/18

Working together to achieve success for every child

Dear Parents,

During the last two weeks students have conducted a personal inquiry into a civilization that interested them. They have used this information to help them create an artefact that tells us  about the characteristics of that civilization. They will then be using their knowledge to help them create a class museum displaying their artefacts based on the displays they saw on their trips to the museums.

In language, students have continued writing using the features of a persuasive text. They have learned how to incorporate persuasive words into their work to help them influence their audience. We have also looked at taking notes on their chosen civilization as well as the artefact that they want to display in the museum.

In reading, students have been making notes on their chosen civilization. We have practiced citing sources to give credit to those we gather information from. Students have also looked at how to make a glossary of terms to define any difficult vocabulary in their text.

In Maths, we have begun to inquire into 3D shape. Students have identified the nets that can be folded into the 3D shapes. They have used the construction kit Clixi to make their shapes and then extended this into making their own nets to fold into the shapes.

Last week our students were fortunate to be able to watch the Year 6 exhibition. They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to visit the different exhibits and asked some interesting questions. This sowed the seeds for them to start thinking about their own exhibition and what issues they are interested in.

Congratulations to our volunteers who shared information about their learning to a large audience during assembly. They were confident and clear in their delivery and the audience were very impressed by their explanations of their chain reaction machines.

How you can help

As we near the end of the year, why not spend some time with your child reflecting on what they have enjoyed, what their successes have been and what they have learned.

Remember if you have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning and wellbeing at school please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance

Kind Regards

Year 4 Team
