Yr4 Weekly Update – 02/24/17

We are definitely becoming accomplished artists in Y4 this week. Our third week of expressing ourselves has seen some really successful pieces of work being made. Children are becoming more familiar with our ‘creative cycle’ and developing the growth mindset necessary to learn from mistakes and feedback. Taking a greater interest in the environment around us helps us develop appreciation and observational skills.

We have been learning some clay techniques this week as well as safe use of cutting tools. Our inspiring images are being collected in an online Google sketchbook and we are reflecting on choices as well as recording the sources to make sure we are academically honest!

Literacy

This week we ave continued to explore poetry. Some children have performed some poems. We have looked at onomatopoeia and similes. Children have had a chance to write some of their own poetry using these ideas and respond to others. We have also continued to focus on viewing skills through our unit of inquiry content.

Maths

We have been adding and subtracting fractions with like and similar denominators as well as using all of our fractions understanding to engage in some ‘rich’ tasks to extend our problem solving skills. Students are learning to transfer meaning into numerical representation of fractions in shapes, lengths and amounts.

Home Learning

The children are really enjoying the MyMaths tasks set for them by their class teachers. Please try to find a way to let them access these at home for a short time. Several children have been out and about in the great outdoors and I’ve included some of the artwork created from natural objects in the photos below.

As always, please take the time to read stories with and to your child.
