Yr4 Weekly Update – 03/17/17

A fantastic week of maths this week, with great costumes on Pi Day and lots of open ended challenges making us all think hard and enjoy our mathematics. It’s also been the last week of our unit on How We Express Ourselves, so we’ve all been finishing off our art works and viewing each others’ masterpieces. Reflection is a key stage in the creative cycle, and is what helps us be better next time! We are all looking forward to talking about our learning at next week’s Student-Led Conferences.

Literacy

More work on our descriptive language and literary devices in both reading and writing. Visualising is a key skill for lots of our learning, but particularly in reading where we use it to help make sense of the text, and in writing where we use it to help ‘see’ the story we want to tell.

Maths

We have spent the week practicing our coding skills as part of our unit on pattern and function. We have learned about algorithms, programs, language and de-bugging through the scratch.mit.edu resource. Children now have their own account at scratch.mit.edu and can use the account from home computers once the account has been verified by their primary adult contact email (you).

We have also been making some 3D shapes in maths to connect our learning with the unit of inquiry. Again, this is learning that can carry on at home
