Yr4 Weekly Update – 03/31/17

Happy Holidays everyone. What a great term it’s been with so many creative opportunities and chances to shine! We have wrapped up our unit on How We Express Ourselves and begun tuning in to How the World Works. Please continue to send in junk modelling materials and any unwanted mechanical toys and devices. One of the best things we deconstructed last year was an old food processor!

Hopefully you were all proud of the work put into presenting at the Student-Led Conferences. More than a parent consultation, it’s like the chance for every child to do their own individual assembly. So many skills and attitudes that need to be used.

Literacy

We enjoyed the Faust performance of the SPLAT poetry show on Thursday – some great modelling of speaking and presenting as well as being very funny. We’ve finished writing our narratives, lots of lovely description and literary devices like personification, simile, metaphor and onomatopoeia.

Maths

We’ve done some interesting open-ended problem solving using patterns this week which have consolidated some number understanding as well as allowing us to be creative mathematicians.

Home Learning

Notice the machines you see in the world around us – plenty in the kitchen and out of the window…

Look for arrays in the Hong Kong urban landscape – can you use them to calculate how many tiles on the floor, or how many windows on the ICC?

And lastly, read, read read!

Enjoy the Easter break – see you in April
