Yr4 Weekly Update – 04/21/17

DECONSTRUCTION WEEK has been a lot of fun. Students have been taking apart old toys and machines to help them understand how they work. We have been looking for the 6 simple machines and experimenting with different tools. Learning how to create exploded diagrams has been useful in trying to explain mechanisms. We are developing our understanding of the concept of work as a measurable phenomenon and have used different mechanisms as a stimulus for some line drawing in our artwork.

Language

We revisited the criteria for a successful recount and students were able to work on their hexagon targets through an unaided writing piece about their break. We have also looked at the features of an explanation text and started learning about how to journal our learning in science investigations.

Maths

We concluded our unit on Pattern and Function, looking at patterns in equations and trying to use a systematic approach to ensure we find all the permutations of multiplication calculations. Next week we will begin a unit on Measurement to help us with our scientific investigations into forces and work.
