Yr4 Weekly Update – 30/9/16

General

This week we have been consolidating our learning in the unit by creating growth targets. Children have been asked to choose a problem to solve or a wish to come true and then identify the actions that will help them achieve this goal. They have thought about which skills and strengths will help them and how having a growth mindset will enable them.

Maths

In data handling we have been looking more critically at how data is represented and viewed. We have also talked about different forms of data and what it looks like if it is not numerical. We have begun to look at how we use the language of probability and used our ordering skills to order likelihood vocabulary.

Literacy

This week we have focussed on using our personal journals a reflective tool. We have identified areas of growth and created goals for ourselves. Students have had a chance to plan their writing and get feedback from others on how to improve it. We have started to investigate ‘asking questions’ as a reading comprehension strategy.

Home Learning

As we are nearing the end of our unit, we are looking for ways that the children are putting their learning into action. As they go through their normal lives outside school, children can show how they have developed their attitudes of empathy and commitment, how they are being courageous and reflective, and how they are using their thinking skills to plan their action, and their social skills to respect other and accept responsibility for their behaviour.

Important Dates

Please put October 19 in your diary as the date for Year 4 Camp meeting for parents. This will be held in the Year 4 shared area at 3.00pm.
