Yr5 Weekly Update – 04/21/17

Central Idea: Humans continue to migrate for many reasons

UOI

We got the new term off to a splendid start with an interesting talk by people from Christian Action. The students and teachers were lucky to hear about refugees and asylum seekers from people with first-hand experience. The students listened carefully and asked very sensible questions. Now our challenge is to take some action to try and help these unfortunate souls if we can. Please ask your children what they learnt from this.

MATHS

The students are looking at pattern and function in our maths lessons. We are looking at patterns in numbers, shapes and in the natural world. By investigating these patterns, we should be able to predict what the next part of the sequence should be. The students should be able to explain these patterns and represent them in tables, symbols, charts and graphs.

LANGUAGE

This term we started looking at Narrative. This is basically story writing. We have had a go at writing a story and over the next few weeks we will learn how to improve our narrative writing. The students will look at the structure and organisation of narrative and explore the different conventions that make things better. The best way to improve your narrative writing is to read lots of different stories. Next stop the library! Happy Reading.
