Yr6 Weekly Update – 04/21/17

How We Express Ourselves – The Exhibition

Welcome back, we hope you had a safe and relaxing holiday!

We are right back into the swing of things here in Y6 with the exhibition happening. We started the week by looking at the Central Idea and deconstructing it and putting it into our own words to help us gain a better understanding.

CI: Expressing values and passions moves people to take action.

We are inquiring into

  • The reasons for ___________ (causation)
  • Local connections to the global goals (connection)
  • My responsibility to move others to take action (responsibility)

Students were introduced to the MISO research method which will enable them to practice ways of investigating topics that they may not have explored before.

MISO stands for…

M = Media

I = Interviews

S = Surveys

O = Observations

We want to ensure that the students are exposed to all of these different kinds of research in order to devise questions they can answer to successfully complete the exhibition.

This week, students are working on the design and discover stages of the solution fluency process. Based on their Global Goal, students are required to define their issue and then define the reasons for that issue. This also helps us to answer our first line of inquiry.

When students have defined their issue they will use the M.I.S.O research method to discover more about the reasons for the issue, both the good and the bad, as well as find both  quantitative and qualitative data to support their findings.
