CAMP UPDATE

1 more week until Y6 Camp! Just a gentle reminder to please ensure you have all of the equipment that is recommended by the camp. Please ensure that any PRESCRIBED medicine is sent to camp in a Ziplock bag with your child’s name and clear instructions on how to administer the medication. Students should not be packing any over the counter medicine, devices, food, or snacks of any kind.

Due to the fact that the students will be moving from the dorm to a tent and vice versa, students will benefit from packing and unpacking their big bags. We are now asking that you send your student in with their camp bag on THURSDAY NOVEMBER 24th. The bags will be returned home the same day. Students DO NOT  need to bring in their sleeping bags and sleeping mat, but of course they will need to take these on camp.

STUDENT LEARNING

As we continue to inquire into how current and emerging communications technology impacts society, we have continued to put our inquiry and research skills to work by collecting data about how certain communication technologies work. Students are now doing their own personal research into different communication technologies. This information will then be used to write an explanation report.

We will also be putting our skill of Synthesizing to use as we gather all of this information and try to come up with a bigger picture or a new understanding.

All of the Y6’s tried their hand at a new kind of technology platform this week in order to prepare for their final assessment task. In groups of 2 or 3, students will use a form of communication technology to inform and educate a chosen audience.

This week, 6 students from each class attended a 45 minute session on a technology platform of their choice, provided by the teachers. There were 5 different forms of technology on offer which consisted of, Bookcreator, GoAnimate, iMovie, Weebly, and Voki. Students found it very useful as they met other teachers, discovered new forms of technology, worked with students from other classes and used their creativity to create and collaborate with their technology.

For maths this week the students are working in groups to figure out a large math problem, Camping or Glamping? In their groups they need to plan a holiday for 2 adults and 2 children. Their holiday will last for 3 nights  and they must choose a location, activities, food, and equipment from a list. Most importantly, students have to work as a team and have a budget of $8000 HKD to work with.

Annie – The Musical!

Teamwork makes the dream work! This is especially true with such a big performance which included students from throughout the school! The Y6 students were lucky to watch one of the dress rehearsals for Annie on Wednesday. It is quite a show and we hope you had the chance to see it and enjoy it.

Congratulations to all of the students who performed, participated in the front and back of the house as well as all of the teachers who took the time to organize it all.
