Dear Parents,

Welcome back to our final term for 2018/19. We are looking forward to an exciting term of learning. Things have gotten off to a great start with our Year 1 children taking action on Monday by participating in a beach clean-up day at Discovery.

In my travels, during the holidays, I returned to New Zealand for five days and then Bali for 10 days before returning to Hong Kong. What struck me was the difference in the environments. New Zealand beaches were litter free, the water clean (but cold!), the tracks and walkways were clean surrounded by nature. Bali was the opposite; the beaches were littered with rubbish, on a snorkelling day, we collected bags of underwater rubbish and the tracks were littered with waste (some work is happening). On our return to Hong Kong, we could not help but notice the waste, the overuse of plastic and the polluted waterways. We need to take action; our future and the future of our children is at risk.

During term 3, we will be working as a team to firm up some goals and commitments toward making KJS a greener school. We will be involving the children in discussion and plans for the year ahead. If you have suggestions, resources or funding avenues that can help us to go green, please do contact us. Together, we can make a difference for our children. Success for Every Child and the AAROW's of Success depends on adults working with our children. We invite you to partner with us to make our world a better place for our children, starting at KJS, working into the community and going global! I am sure in the upcoming Year 6 PYP Exhibition we will see our children taking initiatives to change our world.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद
