Dates for Your Diary

Dear Parents,

Happy Diwali!

Thank you for your participation in the Three Way Learning Conference. The feedback was very positive from families whom other senior leadership team members and I spoke with. However, only 12 of the possible 700+ parents completed our two-minute online survey. Please take the time to give us some feedback here so that we know if our time is well spent!

What a wonderful week it was! We had the staff professional development day on Monday where the whole team discussed wellbeing through the lens of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, inclusion and technology. The team came away with a number of specific targets and with new skills for supporting student agency, wellbeing and use of technology. Additionally, we had children on field trips to the Kowloon Walled City, Student Leaders welcoming and guiding the Primary and Kindergarten Principals around our school, a whole day of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang rehearsal on Saturday and then Arts in the Park on Sunday. The weekend events alone included well over 200 students!

I am very grateful for having such a dedicated and passionate team of staff who are prepared to go to extremes to ensure children achieve, have the opportunity to excel, especially in the arts and have positive wellbeing.

Once again please do give us feedback on the Three Way Conferences!

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill O’Reilly

Principal

Library News – Library Diwali Decorations by Parent Volunteers and Book Donations

Happy Diwali!

Parent Volunteers

The KJS Library had our first Library Volunteer Workshop last week attended by 15 parents. Thank you to everyone who attended. At the session, various volunteering opportunities were explained including book wrapping, book shelving, shelf walking, mother tongue storytelling, art & display, and lunchtime play parent volunteers.

Already, parent volunteers started helping. Thank you to our Parent Volunteers, Shalini Pannu (Parent of Neil Harish of 3J) and Shuchita Singh (Parent of Veer Sethi of 1B), for helping us illuminate the Library with Diwali decorations. Wishing everyone a wonderful Diwali.

KJS Library Book Donations to the Philippines Schools affected by Typhoon Manghut

Last week, KJS Library donated 500 books to NURTURE, an organization that collects and donates books to Philippine Schools affected by Typhoon Manghut. Should you have books in good condition that you would like to pass to us, please drop it off to our library team and we will pass it to them in the next collection date on 17 December.

Message from the PE Department

WELLBEING at KJS

Over the last two weeks, we had an opportunity to share how each and every one of us can make small changes to enhance ourselves and others wellbeing.

HEALTHIER CHOICES

Hannah Herd and Audrey Lee shared a message about making healthier choices 1,2,3 to improve how we feel and our readiness for each day at school.

  1. Drink water instead of sugary drinks. At Kowloon Junior, we are a water only school.
  2. Be active for 60 minutes a day and prioritise sleep over screen time.
  3. Eat healthier foods. Keep it simple, keep it real.

KINDNESS

The author, Henry James famously said;

‘There are 3 things in human life that are important.

The first is kindness,

the second is kindness,

and the third is kindness’.

Research now shows, amongst other things, that kindness improves our mood, builds strong relationships and even strengthens our immune system. When we are kind, we become the healthiest version of ourselves.

Our students learned that kindness is catching; being kind to ourselves, others or the environment is passed on, eventually resulting in a happier, more positive, healthier community. They were asked to make a promise to themselves to be kind at least once every day. Ask your child if they are keeping that promise to help make KJS (and the world) a happier place.

‘No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted’.

Student Success

We are delighted families are regularly sharing their children’s success at home with us at KJS. To help manage the large amount of information the school sends home, we will channel the celebration of success to our Facebook page leaving the newsletter with the key weekly messages and important dates. You can find the school’s Facebook here. Please keep the photos and stories coming of our children shooting the AAROW’s of Success!
