Chinese Book Fair
Chinese New Year Celebration
After a peaceful and restful Christmas holiday, we are back into another festive season. Chinese New Year is just around the corner! Kowloon Junior School will be celebrating Chinese New Year next Friday 17 January.
All students are invited to come to school wearing their favourite Chinese-style clothing and/or red-colored clothing. Red is a very auspicious color for the festival, so let’s celebrate together!
Welcome back to Term 2 everyone! We’re looking forward to an exciting term. A few important days to note:
Scholastic Flyers and Book Fair
Today, students will be coming home with Scholastic flyers to purchase books. Based upon feedback from the school community, this will be the last time flyers will be sent out. A reminder to have your child’s name, class and contact telephone number written on the flyer and cheque stapled together. Please note the deadline for the forms will be 16 January.
Scholastic is working on creating an online platform so that students and parents can order books directly. During this transition period, we will be trialing with holding a Scholastic Book Fair tentatively scheduled for 13-15 May. Students and Parents will have the opportunity to purchase books on the three days.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this new arrangement.
Library Monitor Application Terms 2 & 3
Thank you to all our library monitors who helped us out during Term 1. To allow more students the opportunity to volunteer, we are asking all interested students in Years 4-6 to apply. Here is the link.
Spaces are limited and we ask that you apply only if you are committed to helping during the dates that you signed up for. Students who are currently library monitors will need to re-apply if they would like to continue.
As a library monitor, some of the duties would include:
– shelving books
– shelf walking
– monitoring the use of board games
– special projects as given by the Library Team (Ms. Lau, Ms. Eva or Ms. Monil)
Please fill out the form and return to us by Friday 17 January 2020.
Students shortlisted, will be asked to come in during snack time for an interview with the Library Co-Captains from 20-23 January.
Library Borrowing Limit Increase
Thank you to the school community for donating books to the library and to parent volunteers who have come to help wrap these books. As a result, the library team is happy to announce that we currently have enough books to increase borrowing limits for students in all year levels.
Students from Years 1 to 4 will be allowed to borrow 1 additional book.
Students in Years 5 & 6 will have unlimited access.
As usual, students are personally responsible for any books borrowed under their library account. Weekly overdue notices will be emailed to parents and any books lost or damaged will be charged.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our library team in person or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome everyone to 2020 and Term 2 where exciting events have been planned by the PTA. Our first event of the year, our School Disco will be held next Friday, 17 January 2020.
Dress up as your favourite Disney character and embark on a musical adventure with us.
Please be reminded that this will be a family affair – siblings and family members are welcome and it will be an alcohol-free evening. Bring your own refillable water bottles.
Food will be available for purchase.
Parents and guardians are responsible for their children at all times. All other areas, except for the first floor of the school, will be closed.
We are pleased to announce that Bingo Night will take place on Friday, 21 February 2020. Tickets issued previously for this event are still valid. If you are unable to make it on this date, please approach the PTA office for a full refund.
Tickets are on sale now.…don’t forget to dress up for a night at Hogwarts.
Our biggest event of the year will take place on Saturday 14 March 2020. We are in the midst of preparing for the fair. We need your help.
If you can volunteer at the event, please let us know.
If you would like to lead a food stall or put together a team for a food stall, please let us know.
If you would like to donate items for auction, please let us know.
If you would like to make a cash donation towards the fair, please let us know.
We cannot do this without you. Please come forward and support your school.
We still have vendor spots available. If you would like to rent a booth at our mini bazaar for the day to sell items from or promote your business, please get in touch with us.
For Term 3…
We will be reintroducing our popular Quiz Night on Friday 15 May 2020.
