Acting Principal's Message

Dear KJS Families,

I hope that you are having a good week.

First, I would like to apologise for any confusion regarding the ESF Survey. As per the ESF App message that I sent on Monday, families are required to use the original link that was sent by the ESF Centre. I thank all of you who have taken a few minutes to complete the survey already and encourage you to complete the survey this week if you have not had the chance to do so.

This week, I have something slightly different to share and celebrate. Professional development is an essential part of what keeps our schools discovering and growing, and it comes in many different forms. Our Year 4 Lead Learner, Ms. Aarti Gupta, has just recently started an educational blog, and I encourage you, with her permission, of course, to take a few minutes to look at it. You can access it here. This blog clearly shows the depth of thinking and willingness to engage with research that is representative of the ‘becoming more data-informed' journey at KJS. Ms. Gupta also clearly understands the importance of sharing her thinking to expand her thinking, as well as the fulfilment that comes from supporting others.

Last Friday morning, Year 4 students took positive action at KJS in the form of a Flash Mob after learning about the negative impact that palm oil and plastics have on our environment and wildlife. Y4 students courageously danced for and shared their eye-catching posters with all KJS students on the playground before school started. This was a great opportunity for some of our students to share their thinking and messages with a captive audience.

Finally, I would like to share that we have begun to actively consider more opportunities to build parent engagement between now and the end of the school year. Of course, the great news that we will have a community-focused Fun Day in March will feature as part of this initiative, but there are other opportunities such as onsite curriculum workshops, coffee mornings, and assemblies that we will explore. Please stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Publishing of ISA Results

Dear Year 4, 5 and 6 parents,

In Term 1 your child took part in the International School's Assessment (ISA) suite of assessments. These tests assess Mathematical Literacy, Reading, Narrative Writing and Exposition Writing. The results are now ready to share with you and will be published on Gateway on Friday 10 Feb.

As with any standalone assessment the ISA is a snapshot of your child's learning that helps our teachers triangulate the data they gather from their ongoing assessments of your child. We know that this form of summative assessment does not suit all learners so they form part of the data picture for you alongside the school reports and the information you receive at parent's evenings.

Please do take some time to read the information at the top of the ISA results. This will help to explain how to read the data. If you do have any questions or clarifications regarding the ISA results please reach out to your child's teacher who will already be using the assessments as part of their knowledge base to move your child's learning forward.

Kind regards,

The Senior Leadership Team

Lunch provider service

Thank you to all those parents who took the time to complete the Google Survey Form. We had an excellent response which now gives us interesting and clear data on your views, which we are acting on already.

We are in discussions with some lunch service providers and currently going through a selection process. We will keep parents informed of the progress and outcomes.

Please feel free to contact Rekha Mahbubani, our new PTA Administrator, in the PTA Office via email on pta@kjs.edu.hk if you have any questions.
