Dear Parents,

We are getting very close to that wonderful time when children will be back in school for most of the day every day. It feels like it has been a long time coming! As we have planned for the return to school, our priority has been to maximise face-to-face learning experience for every student in a safe and positive learning environment. Once the phased return to school is complete, we will have 100% of students at school five days a week!

The model we are adopting  is different to the model last year, where only 50% of students were at school at any one time. Classrooms have been configured and steps taken to enable 100% of students to learn together safely. The strict distancing guidelines means that schools cannot accommodate 100% of students eating lunch at the same time (or even within a two hour period). That is why students will return home for lunch after a full morning of lessons and continue their afternoon lessons online.

Our new model is a combination of ‘in school' learning and distance learning via live zooms in the afternoon for all classes. It will definitely be a full day of school, just held in two locations, to keep students safe, support their wellbeing and keep them learning through a positive and meaningful curriculum and the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

To help us prepare for a safe and smooth return to school please complete this survey as soon as possible:

https://forms.gle/ysXYvVJLhG1A3qoD9

Given so many of you have school devices, please note these need to come into school with your child the first day they are back on site. There is an application form on the lower part of this newsletter (just scroll down), and it is also on the website (Tab “Does your child still need a device for the afternoon zooms?”) if you think your child will still need the device for home zooms once we are back.

As we transition back to school please communicate very clearly with your child how they will be travelling to and from school and also make sure you communicate with the bus company.

All the details you need to prepare your child for a positive, safe and enjoyable return to school are here on our school website. Please take the time to read carefully through the information.

We are really looking forward to seeing the children back at school!

The Conclusion of this period of Distance Learning

As in the past, parent voice is critically important to us as we review the impact of distance learning and plan for any future distance learning provision. Accordingly, in week 5 we will conduct a comprehensive parent feedback survey to gather your voice.

I would like to end this week's newsletter by acknowledging a wonderful family and especially a very kind and talented grandfather. Over the summer break Olivia Qiao's grandfather, Li Congxin hand painted a beautiful fan for every one of our staff members, with a personalised phrase for every staff member! This was deeply appreciated by staff as we celebrated the return to school and the reimagining of education that has taken place over the last year. You can see Olivia and her grandad below along with some of the beautiful fans he created. We are extremely grateful to this wonderful family for their support and also to the PTA who provided some sustainable items for staff to commemorate this unique year in our history.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill O'Reilly

Principal

Borrowing iPads or Chromebooks

As you will see from our Return to School timetable there are times when your child is 'in school' and at home during the transition phase and then when we are back 'in school' children will zoom from home in the afternoons.

We are aware that in some homes parents will still want to access the school devices meaning the child would have to transport the device safely back and forward each day and charge the device each evening. If you believe your child can manage this responsibility, safely, and responsibly (the device will have to be carried in the child's school bag), and need the device for the zoom please complete the form below.

For Y1 & Y2 iPad Mini, click here;  for Y3 – Y6 Chromebook, click here.

Message from the Nurse

If your child requires medication to be held in school, please complete the medication authorisation form (click here ). You can then either:

  1. Drop the form and medication with the security guard at the main school gate any time from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; or

  2. Send the form and medication in with your child on their first day back at school. For safety reasons, no medications are allowed to be kept in student bags at school. Please ensure all medications are brought straight to the School Nurse.

Please note, you must complete a new form every academic year.

Library News

The Library Team is excited that students will be returning to school. Our team has been back and setting things up for your return. Do you have any questions about what you should do to get ready?

A few kind reminders before you return:

Library Book Bags

It's time to find your library book bags and make sure they are ready for the new school year. For returning students, make sure your borrowing card on your book bag is clear from any stickers and the area is clean. Please watch a quick video on how to clean the book bag.

If you are a new student and do not have a book bag, you can make an appointment with the PTA office and purchase one for $65. For students who are new or lost their borrowing cards, the library team will provide a new one in library class.

Library Plants

The Library team would like to make the library more "green" and "sustainable".

Do you remember at the end of the school year, Ms. Hadley asked our Library team to be more courageous and put more plants in the library. In her weekly gardening tips from the virtual celebration assembly on June 12th, 2020, we asked you to help us by growing a plant over the summer.  Here is a picture of the plant Ms. Hadley helped us grow:

We're looking forward to seeing your plants. Please remember to label the plant with your full name and class.

New Online Resource

The Library team is happy to offer students another opportunity to access eBooks outside of classroom time. Big Universe is a leading digital library that offers more than 14,000 leveled books that can be accessible in any digital device. Information on login and passwords can be found on Year level websites and through the Library Splat.
