Dates for Your Diary

Dear Parents,

Yesterday and today, we held our Y3-6 sports days. What a wonderful way to finish our first term of 2018/19! The highlights for me were seeing the Year 6 students capably and confidently running the day under the guidance of Mr. Riddle and Ms. Hadley. Year 6 students did a marvellous job of explaining each event, guiding their younger peers through the safety rules, and how to participate. Equally, it was a joy to see the children revel in the opportunity to participate and experience exercise and team comradery in their houses. The events were really a positive expression of the AAROW's of Success at KJS.

As I mentioned last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Year 5 and 6 camps and was so impressed by the attitude of the children and the living examples of the PYP Learner profile 1. I would like to reiterate my thanks to the staff who gave so much of their time to ensure our children had the opportunity to experience success at KJS through the outdoors 2.

We hope have you have a restful Christmas break enjoying some 1 to 1 time with your children and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill O'Reilly

Principal

Library News - KJS Library Book Bag and Book Writing Competition

Happy Holidays!

KJS Library Book Bag

KJS Library is proud to present our first library book bag. As there has been an increasing number of damaged and lost books, KJS Library worked together with students to develop a library book bag that would help address this problem.

As part of Library's focus to help students achieve AAROWs of Success, students from Years 1-6 were given the Opportunity to design their ideal library book bag during September. Students asked that books be waterproof, have handles to carry, and to use velcro to replace zippers. An overwhelming 181 designs were received, which 7 were shortlisted. Through paper and electronic ballots, students' voice was heard. Please see below picture for the final design and sample that has been made.

Starting Monday 21 January 2019, KJS Library Book Bags will be available for sale at PTA office for $60/each. All Year 1 to 5 students will be required to purchase the bag during Term Two (7 January - 12 April 2019). Year 6 students will be given a book bag as a graduation gift from PTA so they will not be required to purchase a bag.

Book Week Book Writing Contest

This year, KJS Library is planning Book Week with the Year 6s. An idea was formulated to have a Book Writing Contest where all students can have an opportunity to be an author and where their work can be displayed.

From now until 1 February 2019, students who are interested are invited to write the following books:

1) Picture Book (with illustrations)

2) Fiction Book

3) Graphic Novel / Comic

4) Mother Tongue Picture Book

Books should include a cover page with students name and class (illustration optional). Books will be displayed during Book Week from February 25 to March 1st at KJS Library. We will be inviting the school community to vote for their favourite book and winning book will be published.

For more questions regarding the Library Book Bag or Book Week Book Writing Contest, please contact Ms. Lau at macy.lau@kjs.edu.hk.
