Dear Parents,

Kung Hei Fat Choi! I trust you had an enjoyable Chinese New Year and had a special time with family. We do hope the mid-year report was helpful in assisting you to gain a clear picture of your child's progress and achievement. The report complements the information you receive during and after each unit of inquiry and the three-way learning conferences. Please do contact your child's teacher if you require any clarification.

The Year 6 Unit of inquiry overview which I reviewed today reminds me of the rigour, depth and detail involved in the learning experiences provided for our children through the PYP. Our teachers go to great measures to ensure your children engage in meaningful learning experiences which will challenge and extend them. Please do take the time to read the curriculum updates and curriculum overviews and look for ways that you can make authentic connections and facilitate conversations at home to support your child's inquiry.

Together we can ensure success for every child at KJS!

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill O'Reilly

Reminder: After-School Activities Arrangements

Parents, please be reminded to make arrangements to pick up children by 3.00pm if no school bus service is arranged.

If your child participates in after-school activities at KJS, he/she must be collected immediately when the activity is finished.

  • Please make prior arrangements and communicate with your child beforehand. We do not expect children to make contact with parents under non-emergency situations.

  • If you or a guardian will pick up your child, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the activity ends.

  • If your child will take a school bus, please remind them to wait patiently in front of the school office on G/F for the bus mother.

Please also be reminded that our medical room and school office are manned until 4 pm and 4:30 pm respectively.  For safety reasons, children should not be playing across the campus unsupervised. It is important that they are picked up promptly.

Library News - KJS Book Week (25 Feb - 1 March 2019) and Library Book Bag

KJS Book Week - 25 February to 1 March 2019

The long-awaited Book Week is back! This year's Book Week was collaboratively planned with the Year 6 and will be held from 25 February to 1 March 2019. Your child has been told of some of the exciting activities that will be occurring during the week. Here are some events that you are invited to assist with or attend:

Invitation for Mother Tongue Readers - 25 to 28 February (10:00-10:45am)

We are looking for volunteers to help read to our students in various mother tongue languages. If you are available on any day from 25 to 28 February, from 10:00-10:45 am, we would like to ask for your help. If you're interested, please email Ms. Lau at macy.lau@kjs.edu.hk 2 1.

Book Fair on 4/F Shared Area - 27 & 28 February (8:15 am to 3:30 pm)

Fun to Read has been invited to return to KJS for the annual Book Fair. Teachers have booked a 20-minute time slot either on Wednesday or Thursday for your child to purchase books. This will give children an opportunity to purchase books at a discounted price. Please note that it's not mandatory for children to purchase books.  However, should children want to purchase books, we recommend students to bring no more than $300 in an envelope or ziplock bag with their name and class.

Parents are also invited to come and look at the books in the morning or after school.  Here is a link to the catalogue of some of the books that will be sold during the fair. More books will be available for sale in addition to the ones listed on the catalogue. Here are a few pictures from last year's Book Fair.

Book Parade on Lower Playground - Friday 1 March (8:45 - 9:30 am)

Weather permitting, this year's book parade will be held in the lower playground. Years 1 to 6 will be taking turns walking down a runway, with designated areas for parents to take pictures. As space is limited, we kindly ask that a maximum of 2 per family can attend the parade.

This year's theme is "Find Your Treasure". Children are asked to dress in their favourite book character of a book that they treasure and hold their book while walking across the stage. Should it rain, we will hold the book parade in the Hall with Years 1 to 3 (8:45-9:15 am) and Years 4 to 6 (9:30-10:00).

After School Book Writing Club - starting Wednesday 27 February

Due to the popularity of the book writing contest, an after-school book writing club, lasting 12 weeks, will begin on Wednesday 27 February. Lessons are held from 3:00-4:15 pm at the Library. After 12 weeks, students will have their books edited and published.

Please note that classes are not taught by KJS Teachers and Kowloon Junior School, English Schools Foundation and its affiliates shall take no responsibility for any activities, events, and services, that are organised by other organisations. This course will be taught by a teacher from Elephant Community Press (ECP).

Please see the flyer for more details.

KJS Library Book Bags

A reminder that the KJS Library Book Bag is now available for sale at the PTA office for $60/each. A reminder that all students from Years 1 to 5 are required to purchase before the end of Term Two (12 April 2019). Year 6 students will be given a book bag as a graduation gift from PTA on Friday 22 February  2019 so they will not be required to purchase a bag.

For more questions regarding the Library Book Bag, please contact Ms. Lau at macy.lau@kjs.edu.hk 2 1.
