Dear parents,

Success at KJS was exemplified at the PYP Exhibition last Thursday night. All aspects of our AAROW's of Success were evident. The children were passionate, determined, and communicating serious messages. They showed empathy, kindness and great respect for self others and the environment. Their presentations evidenced the quality teaching and support they have been receiving and showcased the cumulative impact of six years of quality teaching and learning at KJS. Our special thanks to Di May and the Year Six Team for their work with the children in the last few months preparing for the exhibition.

However, one child commented that despite all they do and the important messages that nothing really changes, he said, “Next year people will do the same PYPX presentations because nothing will have changed”

This is a sad observation and requires us to actually take action. The children provided sufficient evidence and research for us to make some changes here at KJS for the year ahead these include (but not limited to):

  • More regular appreciation and information sessions for our helper community

  • Only permitting water to be drunk at school (no sugar drinks)

  • Removing glitter from our practice (this includes glitter pens)

  • Improving our sustainable practices, less laminating, less waste and more reusing products

  • Up cycling through maker education 1

  • Using less paper and being more effective with technology

  • Reinforcing the message of the need for children to bring real food to school (and sending home high sugar processed food)

  • Increasing our tree planting 2 and native garden areas at school

  • Reducing our electricity consumption 3 (coal, coal, coal…)

You can help at home as well, especially if your child presented in the PYPX, make a commitment as a family to take action on at least on of the Global goals.

I hope you enjoy the long weekend coming up and the time with your children. Together we can make a difference, what might your family do this week to honour the work of the Year 6 children and the UN Global Goals?

Kind Regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Message from the Music Department

Dear Parents,

We would like to thank all of you for your support this year encouraging and helping students learn Instruments in Activities. I am sure you aware of the success they are experiencing. Next year we would like to have more violins, especially smaller ones, to start new students. Around 90 students already learn violin and our stock of violins is all used up enabling students to play in clubs. We know that many of the existing violin players have smaller instruments that they have grown out of and if you still have that instrument then please feel free to donate it to the music department. We can make good any minor defect and can use all parts of the violin to recycle Instruments to enable more students to be able to participate. If you have an old unwanted Instrument please leave it at the general office.

Thank you for your support,

Stephen Davenport

Audition for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Parents of children in Year 3, 4, and 5

The response to auditions next week for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has been amazing so far. Sign up closes on Friday 15 June. Please remember your child cannot audition if you have not signed them up. We will inform the children who are signed up, what time to come to the hall on 20 June.

In the music folder on the SPLAT page you will find a script for your child to learn (have a go at all of the parts). This is just for the audition and not necessarily for these parts in particular. There is also a song to learn.

Once again, we have had a huge response and we are so impressed by the enthusiasm and that our KJS children exhibit.

For our students... remember, Aristotle said “The whole is greater than the part,” and together, no matter what part you have.....big or small....you are important to the whole production. We cannot do it without you!

Mrs Parker, Mrs Tucker, and Mrs Rigby
