Dear Parents.

After all we have been through, then a T8 to disrupt the flow! Thankfully the event was mild and we are back into school today. We are looking forward to finishing this half term on a positive note and then giving staff and children a break from what has been a very unusual, intense and complex start to the academic year.

IB Evaluation

We have had such a positive time interacting with the PYP Evaluation Team from the IB Organization. Teachers, students, parents, School Council members, and support staff have all been involved in meetings and provided feedback to the evaluators. The Evaluators will then review our own self evaluation study and subsequently consider all the information and evidence provided and make recommendations for KJS. These recommendations will help to inform our next 3-5 year plan which we will develop in the 2nd half of Term 1 after input from all stakeholders. We want to acknowledge the highly professional work that Dawn Doucette has done to prepare our school for this evaluation and the immense time and energy she has applied to the task.

Arrival and departure from school

Thank you to the parents who have amended their drop off time for children earlier so that all children are in school and ready for learning as early as possible. We are certainly seeing improvements at both ends of the day.

Three Way Learning Conferences (see our “Reporting' tab on this page for more information on 3 Way LC's)

The link for you to sign up for the Three Way Learning Conferences will open tomorrow at 6:00pm There are two things you will need to do.

1. Book into a slot from Gateway - Parent Consultation

2. Advise us if you intend to meet in person at school or via zoom by filling in the below form

https://forms.gle/bue5LhrqVXwXdW2d8

Please note that both the registration bookings will be closed on 27 Oct at 1:00pm

The Three Way Conference is for the child, teacher and parent to meet together to discuss progress to date, wellbeing and to share next steps. We look forward to seeing you on either 28 October or 4 November.

We hope you have a relaxing mid-term break. If you would like to support your child with learning over the break, reading and writing are great options, as well as exploring the environment and discussing the maths in your environment. However, given the challenging start to the year for children, it is also important to give them a break from school based learning and just allow them time to play, relax, get outside, interact with nature and spend some time away from screens. We know that rest time actually enhances children's long term learning gains so we hope that you are able to enjoy some relaxing quality family time with your children over the next week.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill O'Reilly

Principal

Message from the Nurse

As we welcome the cooler weather, we are also now approaching flu season. If you would like your child to have the seasonal influenza vaccination this year, please arrange to visit either your private doctor or a doctor enrolled in the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme. The latter will enable you to obtain the vaccination at the Government subsidised rate. More details regarding this can be found on the Centre for Health Protection website here.

In order to find a doctor enrolled in the scheme or to find contact details for the Department of Health Vaccination Division, please follow this link: https://apps.hcv.gov.hk/public/en/SPS/Search

Information about how to use the above search tool is available here .

Please note that the seasonal influenza vaccination will NOT be arranged for students in school.

Government Student Grant 2020/21

The application form for the government's Student Grant had been sent home last week. Please refer to this guide here for more information.

If you have received a green form, please complete it and return it to your class teacher or the school office; if you did not receive a form (including Year 1 children), please download a blank form from the EDB's website, then return it to your class teacher or the school office.

The deadline for submitting is Friday 30 October 2020.

Postpone Parent Seminar - Triple P

As the T8 signal was hoisted and school was suspended yesterday, the parent seminar on Triple P will be postponed. A message was sent to parents who have registered.

The new date will be Tuesday 27 October 2020 with the same time at 5pm. The zoom link will be sent after mid-term break.
