I am sure you have heard about growth mindset, what you might not know is the science behind how the brain grows and manages mathematics learning. This YouTube Video: YouTube.com/watch?v=ZMmaiaZZeW0 1 ;feature=youtu.be" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video helps us understand the role of conceptual thinking in maths as opposed to methods and endless rules. At KJS we are moving toward more conceptually based maths and number sense in an effort to enhance mathematically learning. The second YouTube Video: YouTube.com/watch?v=pxru8H6XbR4 2 ;feature=youtu.be" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video shows us how the brain grows new pathways, evidencing that perseverance, practice, real life challenges and meaningful learning experiences help the brain to grow (like learning through inquiry!). Please take the time to have a look and listen, and as always we are keen to hear your feedback. Secondly, we had a timely reminder last week of the importance of cyber safety at school and in the home. An event occured that reminded us of the need for parents to always have their children ‘in the room' (where you can see the screen) when they are online, to have agreements about social media use and have agreement that you as parents will randomly check your children's internet accessible devices to ensure their safety. This checking becomes more contentious with teenagers so now is a good time to make agreements with your child while they are still in primary school. We can assure you, and you can assure your children, that the checking of their devices is to keep them safe until they know how to manage the very complex world of the internet and social media. It is important you regularly talk with your children about the benefits and dangers of social media/ chat rooms/ hangouts/ snapchat/ facebook/youtube where they are potentially talking with someone they do not know personally. Here are some very basic and important messages for your child:
This link and our website can also help. Let's work together to keep our kids safe online! Kind Regards 亲切的问候, सधन्यवाद Neill O'Reilly Principal Advance Fees and Student WithdrawalA message was sent from ESF to all parents regarding advance fees for the 2018/19 academic year. You may also view the message here. If you are withdrawing your child at the end of this academic year, please complete the student withdrawal notice and return it to the school office via email by 1 June 2018. Otherwise, ESF will assume that your child is returning after summer and parents are liable to the tuition fees for September 2018 even if the student does not return to school. Message from the NurseDue to a recent incident we ask all parents to log onto Gateway and update their child's 'Emergency Contact' information. This should be the contact details of a designated caregiver other than yourselves, for example a Helper or a Grandparent. We will always try and contact parents first, but when this is not possible it is imperative we have another option. PTA Update |
