Acting Principal's Message

Dear KJS Families,

I'd like to begin this message by highlighting the strong developmental focus on student leadership that is in place at KJS. Becoming an effective leader is not a selfish endeavour. In fact, the true heart of leadership is building relationships that help others to understand themselves better so that they can find constructive ways forward. Even simple initiatives such as giving others a voice can promote and foster thinking, listening, and action in others.

My first example is the new Voice Box initiative that is being led by the KJS Student Council. Please us this link to find out more directly from our Student Councillors.

My second example is the mentoring role that the Y6 Techsperts will have in inducting Y4 & Y5 students into the Techsperts group at KJS. The Techsperts initiative at KJS encourages students who have a strong interest in the use of technology to enhance learning to share that expertise to support others. The Y6 Techsperts, who have been in the role for several months, will directly support Y4 & Y5 students on the same journey that they have taken. This cascading approach is very effective and sustainable in the development of leadership capabilities.

Moving from student leadership to student experience, we are thrilled to be able to open up more learning opportunities outside of the class for our students. Y2 students were able to visit KGV last week to find out about signs, systems, and people in a different school environment, and Y6 students were able to begin the transition process to Y7 by also visiting KGV. This is in stark contrast to our distance learning situation only one year ago.

Some of you may be aware that the ESF Annual Stakeholder Survey will open directly after the CNY break. This survey will provide all ESF schools with useful feedback to support continuous improvement, so I encourage you all to share your thoughts with us.

I would like to remind you that KJS Mid-Year Reports will ‘go live' this Thursday at 4 p.m. We hope that they will be informative and will provide you with another opportunity to discuss your child's learning progress with them. While ESF does its utmost to make accessing reports as smooth as possible, please keep in mind that technical difficulties will occur unexpectedly at times. If you do experiences any issues accessing your child's report then please let us know directly, and we will work as quickly as we can to resolve the problem.

I wish you all a fulfilling Chinese New Year break, and I hope that our students will enjoy our Lion Dance and CNY Assembly on Friday.

KJS Mid-Year Reports

Dear KJS families,

Assessment is central to our goal of supporting students in the development of knowledge, conceptual understanding and transferable skills. One of the main goals of assessment is to have teachers and students who demonstrate assessment capability and parents and legal guardians who are informed about their child's current learning targets and how best to support them in making progress. We aim to involve teachers and students collaboratively in monitoring, documenting, measuring and reporting on learning. This collaboration in turn helps to develop our students as reflective thinkers who are increasingly able to identify their own strengths and areas for development, taking initiative and action to set and achieve personal targets.

Our mid-year reports serve as one aspect of our multiple reporting opportunities throughout the year, along with 3-way conferences, student led conferences and unit reporting.

Details:

¨      Your child's report will be available via the app tomorrow, Thursday after 5pm.

¨      To access the report please follow these instructions.

We strongly encourage you to sit with your child and review the report.  This will hopefully lead to some useful discussions around your child's strengths and stretches.

Wishing you all a prosperous year of the rabbit!

The KJS Senior Leadership Team
