Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school for the final term of the year.

It seems incredibly we are in the final push for the 2017/18 year! A chance for children to really extend their learning and for teachers to challenge and stretch their students and for us all to focus our energies on creating the best end to the school year we can. We had a staff meeting on Monday night and there is a real level of excitement and anticipation about the term ahead, especially in relation to the Year 6 exhibition (PYPX). I subsequently had the pleasure of sitting in on a planning session with the Year 6 teachers today for the PYPX and I can see it will be an exciting time for the children as they plan their inquiry and work on real global problems and challenges.

The stakeholder survey information was received toward the end of last term and is currently being analysed, this information will assist us as we work to ensure Success for Every Child at KJS and as we seek to continually improve what we do. One question that received a similar response from both staff and parents was regarding communication of children’s progress and achievement (only 73% of you felt you were adequately informed) and we will be investigating ways to improve our reporting in term 3 so that we might start 2018/19 with an improved process and format- more to come on this. We will share more feedback from the survey in due course.

Safety Messages

Sun Hats

Thank you for your support in ensuring your children have their hats at school. We only have  a tiny percentage without hats now. Our practice is ‘no hat, no play’ so please, if your child is one of the few without a hat send along the $64 so they can purchase a new hat and play safety in the sun! While our hats are not perfect they at least protect the face when children are out and about.

Unsupervised children

If your child is dropped at school before 8:00am at present you are putting your child at risk. We do not have supervision for children before 8:00am so alternative arrangements need to be made. We will be notifying parents of children in this situation individually.

Bus children

Please remind your children before they get on the bus in the morning about bus safety rules:

  1. Stay seated with seatbelt on
  2. No eating on the bus
  3. No shouting or loud noises on the bus.

Ask them to explain to you why these rules exist!

Finally, we would like to do some work with our nine dragons of Kowloon and our AAROWS of success. This is a call out for any 3D gaming animators, parent or family members, who might be able to help us. Please contact me directly if you can help (neill.oreilly@kjs.edu.hk).

Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you during the term.

Kind Regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद
