Dear Parents,

Malala Yousafzai, Sophie Cruise, Ryan Hickman, Robby Novak, Yash Gupta, five young people who have changed the world. Children can change the course of history!

This week in our PYPX, our 150 children will be doing their part to make the world a better place, to correct the wrongs of previous generations, to convince children and especially adults, to change their ways and support the UN Global Goals for a sustainable future.

What will you do? How can you help?

Please take the time to listen to our students, to read their website and make some changes in your lives so that our children have the potential of a safe, sustainable and joyful future on this beautiful earth.

I look forward to seeing many of you during the next week as the Year 6 showcase their PYPX and other year groups showcase their learning in a variety of ways.

KJS children can change the world!

Kind regards

Neill O’Reilly

UNICEF Kid Power Programme – THANK YOU!

Thank you to all those who participated in this years ESF UNICEF Kid Power pilot Programme.

In a little under 3 months, together the KJS community provided 1564 packets of RUTF with over 39 million steps taken to save 10 lives. This is a fantastic achievement we can all feel very proud of.

The bands have now been archived and you are now welcome to continue the programme privately at home. Here  are instructions of what to do next if you choose to continue. Thanks again for your support and we hope to have even more participants next year.

Reminder to Children Leaving KJS

For children who will not be returning to KJS for the 2019/2020 school year, please be reminded to copy to a thumb drive all of your child’s school records from Gateway, as access to the system will not be available after departure.

Residential Address Update on Gateway

If your family will be moving or changing residential address over the summer, please be reminded to update accordingly on Gateway, especially for next year’s Year 6 children, as transition to Year 7 will be processed according to current residential at the time of application.

KJS Parents With Siblings

Referring from an ESF press release dated 8 March 2019 (click here for the full article):

Students joining the first year of an ESF kindergarten from August 2020 will be guaranteed a place at an ESF primary and secondary school, if they can benefit from a mainstream education.

“Students will now be able to move seamlessly through the ESF education system from K1 to Year 13 without the need for further interviews.”

If you have a younger child who is born in 2017 and wishes to join the ESF family, he/she should be eligible to apply for an ESF kindergarten this September to start in the 2020/2021 school year. More detail will be posed on the ESF website over the summer.

PTA Update

School Disco

Thank you to all the parents, children, teachers and SLT who came to support the school disco on Thursday, 13 June 2019.  It was a very successful event with almost 450 people in attendance.

The idea of having food for purchase worked well and the price of the tickets were a lot cheaper than our previous discos and there was less wastage of food.

A special thank you to Jessica Austin and Heather Bogador for their help and enthusiasm at the school disco which provided the children with a true disco experience.

Auntie Appreciation Afternoon

To offer a chance for children to show their appreciation for their helpers / aunties and to tie in with some Year 6 PYP Exhibitions, the PTA will be hosting an ‘Auntie Appreciation Afternoon’ on Tuesday, 25 June 2019 from 1:30pm.

If you would like your helper(s) to participate in this event, please use the link that was emailed to you last week to register.  It is imperative to register to ensure participation in the event for security reasons.

A Year 6 Group would like to share more information about the Auntie Appreciation Afternoon.

We are Y6 PYP Group 39 (UN Global Goal #14 Life Under Water) Jayden Chan, Krishna Bhojwani and Audrey Lee. This year, we are partnering with PTA to organize this year’s Auntie Appreciation Afternoon. It will be held next Tuesday, 25 June 2019 at 1:20pm. We are happy to invite Ms. Liza Avelino of the Filipino Dynamos to this Afternoon. She will be talking about plastic pollution and her group’s clean-up work in hard to reach coastal areas in Hong Kong.

If you have not already signed up, please fill in the registration form found in a school email sent out last week.

We look forward to seeing you/Aunties next Tuesday!

Ms. Lisa Avelino, Filipino Dynamos

Recipe Booklet

The KJS Food Diary 2019, a collaboration of recipes put together by Lizzie Sharp, is available from the PTA office at $40 each.  It has a wonderful collection of international recipes with illustrations contributed by teachers and parents.

PTA Donation

The PTA has donated a cheque of over $190,000 to the school from the raffles sales from the school fair.  The school will use this donation to invest in hands-on sustainable learning resources for the children.

Thank you.

Kind regards,
