What an incredible few days. We know the impact of the Super Typhoon varied across Hong Kong with some properties severely damaged and others untouched. Out thoughts go out to families and communities who are still reeling from the storm. We are so grateful the school was relatively unscathed and we are also very thankful for the incredible amount of work done by ESF and our own site staff to get the school ready for children today. In classes today children were given opportunity to talk about the event, to share their news, their perceptions and in some cases their worries. Events like this can traumatise children so it is important families make time to talk about how each child feels. I have included a help guide here as your child may need ongoing time and support to work through feelings and fears following the storm. Some key messages are important:
Please help us to help your child, if you have any ongoing concerns please let your child's teacher know so that we might build their resilience together from this event. Assessing Wellbeing in Education (AWE) As we continue our year long focus on contextual wellbeing at KJS we want to make you aware of one of the modes of gathering data that we are using in order to measure wellbeing at school and plan next steps. Next week children in Year 4, 5 and 6 fill in an online questionnaire assessing their wellbeing. This is happening across ESF with all students in year 4-13. The Assessing Wellbeing in Education (AWE) assessment will help schools to measure and track the wellbeing of their school community though Positive Education based online wellbeing assessments. The AWE assessment consists of a collection of validated psychometric scales and scientifically informed questions from the psychology literature that assess various aspects of wellbeing. The AWE assessment covers all major theories of wellbeing, rather than one particular theory or perspective. Filling in the 14 questions should take no more than 10 minutes. The school will receive data about each student's wellbeing and also anonymised data related to classes, year groups and the whole school. This will help the school plan to help both individuals and inform whole school plans. Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to ensure Success for Every Child through our 2018/19 wellbeing focus. Kind regards 亲切的问候, सधन्यवाद Neill O'Reilly Principal Fee Collection from ParentsAfter consulting with School Council and PTA seeking to streamline parent fees and provide a sustainable solution to technology demands, we will collect this year's yearly charges stated in the newsletters below. (Please click below) Yearly Charges - Y1 to Y3 Yearly Charges - Y4 Yearly Charges - Y5 Yearly Charges - Y6 PTA UpdateOur AGM was held on Friday in the school hall prior to the Lantern Festival. The meeting gave an overview of the accomplishments of the PTA during the past academic year and our donations to the school. For the year 2017-18, PTA funded the development of the Secret Gardens, the gifts for the Y6 leavers, all the PTA events as well as the purchase of large outdoor play equipment. New Committee We have received nominations for the vacancies in our committee. The new committee will be voted in at our next PTA meeting. Lantern Festival The Lantern Festival was very well attended with families enjoying the evening, mingling with each other and the children participating in our Lantern Parade. It was obviously an enjoyable event – we had to be reminded by Neill a few times that the event was over and it was time to go home . Photographs from this event will be up for viewing on the KJS webpage under the PTA section shortly. Sponsorship for School Fair We are looking for sponsorship for our school fair in March 2019. Our fair is very popular and has a great turnout every year. If you would like to sponsor our event in any way, either through donations in cash or kind, please approach us at the PTA office.
