The relationships we develop at school each day with children, as a staff, with one another and as a community provide the foundation for our children to learn, play, grow and ultimately to succeed. A strong sense of wellbeing helps children to cope with challenges, trauma, setbacks and also to have the courage to take risks and try new challenges and experiences. Our KJS Green Dream Fair showcased the very best our community has to offer: children empowered to perform, to challenge, and to advocate, children feeling safe to play, to explore and to share their school with their family. Our immense thanks to the PTA and staff for making this day possible. On another note, I want to thank the many community members who spoke with me on the day about the horrific events that occured in my home city of Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday. The events reinforce to me the importance of the work we do here at KJS. We have such a unique responsibility and opportunity to help our children to have an international mindset, one of inquiry, of caring and open mindedness. Together as a community, we can make a difference in this world as we teach and model the PYP values and indeed the values of our school. I know you join with me as we grieve the terrible loss of life and loss of innocence in Christchurch. I ask you to partner even more with us at KJS as we strive to support your child to succeed through the AAROW's of Success and the PYP Learner profile. To finish, I want to return to the school Fair. We witnessed children and parents from different ethnic backgrounds celebrating their culture and appreciating the cultures and traditions of others. Our Fair evidenced that not only can we make a difference to the environment but our children are ready and able to create a better world. So as adults, let's do our part to make our Green Dream a reality and let's work together to make this world a better place for our children.
