Dear KJS Families,

I hope that you all found some energising time and activities over the break. First, I must thank you, again, for your understanding and support during the red rainstorm on the Friday before the break. I appreciate that some frustration was felt because of the way things transpired. As per my family letter sent on that evening, please know that we are working with our bus providers and the senior leaders at the ESF Centre to ensure a better experience in the future. Interestingly, the last time that this happened at KJS was in 2002. There is, of course, no guarantee that it will be another 19 years until it happens again. In support of these initiatives, please follow the link below to the bad weather procedures on our website.

KJS Bad Weather Procedures

Looking ahead, the overwhelmingly positive family response to our years five and six day camp surveys means that we will be going ahead with the camps as stated. Year six will be from 24-26/11 and year five from 1-3/12. Details to follow.

We will also be holding our three-way conferences via Zoom on 11/11 (3-6 p.m.) and 12/11 (all day - no school for students). Details regarding this event and the registration process will be shared next week.

Kind regards,

Dr Jamie Schmitz

Acting Principal

Library News

Dear Parents,

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a major celebration that will take place on November 4th this year. To learn more about this special celebration, the library team has invited Hong Kong based author, Ms. Bhakti Mathur, to visit our school on November 2 & 5 and hold a special Zoom night for parents and students on November 8th at 5pm. We're extremely excited that this is possible through the generous support of the KJS PTA.

If you would like to join KJS' first Zoom Author Visit with Parents and students on November 8th, please sign up here. Diyas (electronic lights) will be passed to your child in their classes. Bring your diyas to the author visit and celebrate this special day with us. To learn more about Ms. Bhakti Mathur, you can click here for more information.

There is also a special book offer for our author visit. Ms. Bhakti Mathur has written 17 books which can be ordered online here and will be delivered to your children at school. To see details of her books, click here.

Deadlines for book orders:

November 1 for delivery date on Nov 8

Accessing Material Online

From time to time we become aware of children accessing material online that is inappropriate for their age. In this climate of easy access to various platforms this duty of care is something that I know our parents take very seriously and seek support with. A great resource for parents and families is Common Sense Media which is an organization that "provides education and advocacy to families to promote safe technology and media for children". It helps parents search and navigate popular TV programmes, streaming platforms and online games to see if they are developmentally appropriate for your age of child. It is extremely useful in discussions with your child when deciding what is safe to access in the online world.
