Newsletter- 20/09/17Kowloon Junior School's latest newsletter is available to read now. Dear Parents, Over the last five weeks we have collected an incredible amount of information from a wide range of stakeholders about teaching and learning at KJS. Last week I reported information from the parent survey about strengths and areas we can improve on as a school if we want to ensure success for every child. This week I can report on the feedback about what “Success for Every Child” at KJS means. This feedback is from parent voice in the survey, in person and in anecdotal conversations, staff input, some student input, a review of our existing information, and consideration of our mission statement and PYP focus. What was noticeable was both parents and staff rate well-being/ happiness and academic success as the two most important aspects of “Success”. At this point (and we will still take some more time and feedback to clarify this) “Success for Every Child” means: ...having a positive sense of Well being. That is, physical, social, cultural, spiritual and emotional well being and developing as ‘balance and growth mindset thinkers.' ...being Achievers. Children will be supported and stretch with high expectations to be the best they can be. Children developing as creative, innovative, and reflective thinkers who are knowledgeable, taking appropriate risks in their learning and communicating effectively. ...having Agency. That is, increasingly taking more and more responsibility and ownership of their learning and being empowered to take responsible action. Children who are inquirers and can learn both independently and collaboratively and are lifelong learners. ...taking advantage of Opportunity. Engaging in the broad curriculum and extracurricular experiences available to them, participating in sports, the arts and environmental challenges and preparing themselves for an ever changing world. ...displaying Respect for self, others and the environment and are caring, open minded, principled and reflective in their family, school, community and the world. and as a result… Children who are Internationally minded We are really interested in your feedback. Do you agree that ‘Success for Every Child' is effectively captured in Well being, Achievement, Agency, Opportunity and Respect? Please give us your feedback on this 2 minute response (Click Here ). In the meantime I look forward to meeting many of you at the PTA Lantern Festival this Friday. Neill O'Reilly Principal Student Success |
