Dates for Your Diary

Friday 23 March                                              School Concert

Tuesday 27 March                                          Y1 & Y2 Sports Day

Thursday 29 March                                         End of term (Full school day)

Monday 30 April                                              Teacher training (No classes for children)

Dear Parents and community,

We are certainly are a fortunate school to have such a supportive and active parent community. The fair on Saturday highlighted the wonderful spirit of KJS as well as the dedication and hard work of the PTA, staff and the many helpers who made the day possible. There were so many aspects to celebrate, the international food, the performances on stage, the games and activities, the creativity with hair, nail, face painting and mehndi. In addition to the fun and games I know a significant sum of money was raised that will go straight back into the KJS School environment. Thank you all for your incredible support!

We need your support in another area, sun hats and correct shoes. From Thursday we will be instituting a ‘no hat, no play' practice. Children without hats will have to remain on the covered area outside the Leadership Team offices so that we can ensure they are not in the sun and at risk of UV exposure. Please support us by making sure your child has their hat at school. Please also support the school by ensuring your child wears the correct shoes, white or black, no other option. Thanks in anticipation.

Finally we have our KJS Concert on Friday night. This concert celebrates music and the performing arts and our AAROW's of success, especially Opportunity, Achievement and Wellbeing. We know that giving children Opportunity to explore the performing arts not only promotes wellbeing but also allows the brain to develop in ways not possible through pure academic learning. Please come along and enjoy this celebration of success at KJS!

Kind Regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Neill O'Reilly

Principal

Yesterday we heard the sad news that Geoff Daniel died suddenly at his home in Arundel, UK. Geoff was 70 years old and leaves behind his wife, Jane, and children, Karen, John and Paul. Geoff was a long-serving school council chairman and an active member of the Committee of School Council Chairmen. Geoff became the Chair at Kowloon Junior School in 2003. Following the Ordinance of 2008 he stepped down in 2014, having served the maximum two terms. Geoff then took over as Chair at CWBS, finally retiring in May 2015.

Geoff was held in high regard across ESF, and known for bringing a voice of wisdom and reason to his school council chair roles. I know his passing will be felt across the ESF community. Our condolences go to Geoff's family at this sad time.

KJS School Concert

The KJS School Concert will take place this Friday 23 March in the School auditorium. There will be around 300 participants and the program is a diverse range of music from all the activities that are available at KJS. There will be pieces by Mozart as well as more recent songs such as ‘Can't stop the feelin', ‘Mario theme' and Despacito so please come along and enjoy the performances.

Performance groups taking part will include: The Orchestra, The Chinese Orchestra, Junior Choir, Senior Choir, Percussion Groups, Advanced Violin Group, Recorder Group and Ukulele Groups.

The concert will run from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Those students who are performing, should return home after school and meet back in the music room at 5.30 p.m. The concert is a formal affair and we would like students to wear full uniform (not PE Kit).

The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and all parents are welcome to come and enjoy the wonderful music.

Y1 & Y2 Sports Day - Tuesday 27 March

This year our Sports Day for Year 1 and Year 2 will be held on Tuesday 27 March at the Perth Street sports ground from 9am - 11am. All children should come to school as usual on that day. They will then walk together to the Perth Street sports ground with their teachers.

Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit and school hat. Please make sure your child brings a named water bottle and an easy to eat snack for Sports Day.

All parents are invited to come along and watch their children take part in this fun event. We promote the house system through this event so please come along wearing the colour of your child's house team

Please note that it will be normal school day after Sports Day.

Message from the Student Council

Clothing Drive (we need your help!)

Redress Hong Kong is a non-profit-organisation that works to stop wasting fabric and other materials on clothes which we will inevitably be thrown away after a short amount of time. Their goal is to ensure that everyone only buys what they need, so they can reduce the amount of textiles used for making clothes.

Right now, we can all support Redress by donating used clothes to help those in need around Hong Kong.

So parents, if you have any old clothes at home, please wash them thoroughly and allow your child to bring them to school. Similar to the food drive, there will be multiple boxes located next to the ground floor office. You can drop off your clothes from Monday, March 19th – April 30th.Please keep in mind that they are not accepting torn clothes, underwear, socks, swimsuits or home textiles.

Another way you could help diverting garments from the landfill is to spread the word and persuade your friends and family to contribute and donate washed, cleaned, intact clothing to Redress. One way they can do that easily is to give them to you so that your child can bring them into school.

The items collected need to be intact and CANNOT be worn out. Redress will collect these donations at the end of April sort and distribute them to the people in need. So do not worry, the clothes you are donating are being used for a good cause.

Thank you,

The Student Council

PTA Update

Thank you to everyone who came to the fair.  We hope you had fun.  The PTA committee, members and administration staff spent a lot of time putting it all together.  We were very happy with the turnout and everything went very well.

Thank you to all our parent and teacher volunteers who took their time to help out at the fair.  We cannot pull off such great events without your help.  We are lucky to have such a strong community who come together for the children and the school.

Thank you to all the International Food Stall teams and leaders who come together year after year to create mouth-watering delicacies.  We appreciate all of your efforts.

Everyone at the fair enjoyed all the stage performances.  Well done on displaying such great talents with so much confidence.

Congratulations to the winners of our raffle tickets.

Details of the winning raffle ticket numbers are currently displayed outside the PTA office.

Please approach the PTA office to collect your prizes this week.
