Acting Principal's Message

Dear KJS Families,

Last week, I had the privilege of meeting with several groups of Y4 students to hear about their learning and ideas for action. Specifically, they shared what they had learned about the use of palm oil as an ingredient in many products, the damaging effects that plastics have on the environment and living things, and the action that they are already taking to make a positive difference in the world. I spent some time coaching them through a thinking process where they shared what they ultimately would like to see happen in the world and locally to help them choose actions that would move them towards their aims. Each group is now preparing some things to share with the school community as part of their learning and action, and I am excited to support them.

Since August, our E-Learning Advocacy Group and E-Learning Leader have been involved in a number of initiatives to further develop the effective use of learning technologies at KJS. By effective use, I mean using technology as a tool to support, enhance, accelerate, and sometimes transform learning. Learning should always be the driving factor in education, so we should not be using technology for the sake of it. The initiatives include setting up a student technology leaders group called the Techsperts, partnering with the ESF Digital Technologies Adviser to model the use of technology to enhance learning, resource auditing, resource identification and prioritisation support, and devising ways to communicate and share all of the resources and expertise that we have at KJS. Follow up initiatives include staff engagement to inform and activate learning and practice, and an onsite parent workshop led mainly by our Techperts. Please stay tuned for details.

Book Week 27 February- 3 March 2023

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Next week is Book Week! 5 days to celebrate KJS communities love of books!

The Student Council and Library Team are excited to share with you all the exciting events planned. To help you remember all the activities, please refer to our Book Week Page on our KJS Virtual Library (https://sites.google.com/kjs.hk/kjs-virtual-library/book-week-2023-united-through-books).

A big thank you to Parents and Caregivers who are volunteering to read to our students in their home language. We had over 70 volunteers respond to our Google Form and so we will be arranging mother tongue readings in upcoming library lessons.

To kick off book week, we'll be having an in-person author visit with Dr. Melissa Giglio and Ms. Daisy Geddes. If you'd like a copy of their book, deadline is Friday, February 24th, 2023 and you can order it through this link: https://forms.gle/aFVB1JdB8SSmeicd8.

The other highly anticipated event is our 3 day Book Fair on the 4th floor at our school. Fun to Read has put together a pre-order flyer of box sets that you can order first and to have your child pick up on the day.

Of course, there are other books available on the day for your child to choose. Please have a discussion with your child on how much money to bring. We suggest to bring between $100-300 in a clearly marked envelope or name in a wallet in case it gets lost. Remember, to please remember to bring your own bags.

To end off the week, we will have an optional Book Dress Up Day. We have suggested to students to be sustainable and re-use costumes or to use recycled materials to make their own outfits. There are books with characters that dress in casual clothes and all these books can be borrowed from our library.

We also suggest to donate 1 used book to PTA. Books will be collected by the ground floor PTA office where books collected will be sold during the PTA Fun Fair.

If you have any further questions, please contact Ms. Lau at macy.lau@kjs.edu.hk. Have a great week!

Kind regards,

KJS Library Team

News from the PTA

Hello KJS Community,

KJS Friends and Family Fun Day 18 March 2023

This will be an in-house family day for current students, families and alumni as an exciting way to connect with each other after such a long time. The main purpose is for our school community to get together and have fun, snack  a little, chat, enjoy the music and play some games with the children. It will be casual, lively and a great way to spend some time on the school site.

We will be having  DJ and music on the day, and  if your child would like to perform or run a games stall, please help them complete this Google Form so we can assist in arranging it. This is great for building confidence, encouraging teamwork and collaboration and super exciting for them to be able to interact with their friends in their own school.

We still need some volunteers to lead certain sections of the event, nothing complicated. Please email Rekha at pta@kjs.edu.hk 1 if you can give a few hours of your time. We can't do it without your help!

Class Representatives

We have vacancies for representatives for the following classes: 2S, 3N, 4T, 5I, 5S, 6K and 6N.

If you would like to take this opportunity to be involved, please contact Rekha via email at pta@kjs.edu.hk

Have a great week ahead!

The KJS PTA Team

Student Success

The celebration of student success will channel to our Facebook page. You can find the school's Facebook here. Please keep the photos and stories coming of our children shooting the AAROW's of Success!
