The break was very timely to allow children to get over bugs and seasonal illnesses and we are raring to go with an exciting 8 weeks of great learning planned. I want to remind you of the really important Three Way Conferences coming up this week and next. Please do bring your child, for us to ensure Success for Every Child we need to talk openly and honestly about progress to date and agreed next steps. This week marks the birthday of one of the most influential educators of all time. John Dewey (1859-1952) was a teacher, an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer who argued for children to learn through experience rather than rote learning, to learn from their mistakes rather than hide them and that learning is a social and interactive. He believed children should be active in their own learning and I would suggest he would be a strong advocate for children being present in meetings about their learning! In a lot of ways John Dewey set the scene for PYP learning and the IB philosophy. It is important to understand the origins of schools like KJS and organisations like ESF, we are so fortunate to be a continuation of such a progressive and innovative approach to schooling. As you head into the Three Way conferences here is a reading regarding mistake making and productive struggle (both important ingredients for our maths programme at KJS) to support your discussions with your child and teacher. I look forward to seeing you this week or next! Kind regards 亲切的问候, सधन्यवाद Neill O'Reilly Principal Redress Clothing DriveThe Year 4 students have organized a Redress clothing drive.
