Dear Parents,

We know this has been a challenging week for all, especially with the likelihood of school suspension carrying on well past 20th of April. The ongoing global situation is stressful for all, especially our young children who might be fearful and worried. In the midst of all this, we thank you for taking the time this week to engage in the Student Led Conference with your child. This process is a really important checkpoint for us to ensure we are on the same page in relation to your child's learning and that we are working together to support success for your child. The formality of the process and the reflection will provide clarity for teachers as they plan term three for your child.

As you will know, we have been increasing Zoom times in all year groups. We have been asked by some parents to implement a process of non-stop zoom throughout the day with the teacher online all day with children (similar to what is seen at KGV) and all learning live online. While we understand this request, to have children online live all day would ignore feedback from 714 parents who completed Survey #3. In particular parents and staff are conscious of the impact of extended screen time on student wellbeing. Accordingly, all day zoom would be neither productive, support wellbeing nor sustainable at this time. We will continue to review feedback from parents to teachers, conduct whole school surveys for feedback and listen to students so that we can continue to tweak and enhance our distance learning provision.

The generosity and support of our KJS parent community never ceases to amaze us. In addition to the feedback we receive, both positive and constructive criticism, we continue to have parents doing all they can to support the school. Just this week, Grace Lam (Aiden Chau's Mum in 6P) from Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award Executive Committee, kindly donated 200 Chinese picture books to our library to support mother tongue learning. Thank you Grace! We also continue to receive emails of appreciation from parents recognising the incredible work our team are doing to support success for your children. Thank you, these heartwarming messages really lift our team spirits and provide much appreciated encouragement.

We have also been receiving feedback about ESF fee freese for 2020/21. If you have specific comments or questions regarding fees for the year ahead please direct these straight to ESF as KJS does not make decisions about fees.

If you have any concerns regarding your child's learning or wellbeing, please reach out to us, especially in this week of Student Led Conferences. This is an ideal opportunity and time to connect with your child's teacher to support the AAROW's of success for your child at KJS. Together, we can support your child to Achieve, have Agency, be Respectful (especially online), to take advantage of the Opportunity of distance learning and build positive Wellbeing. Thank you for partnering with us!

Here are the links to last week's wellbeing ideas for families.

Kind regards

亲切的问候,

सधन्यवाद

Principal

Learn Coding & Programming At Home? No problem!

While it might be difficult to imagine a young mind learning something so seemingly complex, it's definitely an attainable reality...! According to a survey online, 71% of all new STEM jobs are in computing, yet only 8% of STEM graduates are in Computer Science. That's a SERIOUS shortage of Computer Science majors.

Learning to code will increase your child's odds of securing a lucrative STEM career, especially in a world where computing jobs are growing at over twice the national average. So, let's unlock new tech skills and soft skills with joining one of our popular courses - Tech Explorer & Tech Adventurer. These newly launched online courses are suitable for students aged 10 to 14.
